Terminix (the bug people) are claiming that termites do $2.5 billion in property damage each year. They say that is more than FIRE or windstorms combined.
USFA stats are well over that for residential fires. Anyone like to comment on their claims and how to get them to recind it if it IS false......

Just a thought here with no support at all, but it may be in the wording of their ad that is true.
Point #1 Is that a national average they are quoting or a world average?
Point #2 That amount of damage may very well be occurring annually, however you just may not know it for years to come. Meaning just cause you can't see the damage doesnt mean it isnt there. Given enough time, the damage will present itself, home values will have increased, thereby having higher amouonts of damage on the property.
Just food for thought...

Thanks for your insight. I irks me that sweeping statements are made by companies without thinking that someone out there is really paying attention to details. What they should say is that when the bug sprayer guy checks for termites, he'll check your smoke detector too.
