witch school to attend

I am getting out of the medical field of the military and moving to Florida and I was wondering what firfighting school was the best to attend?

I guess it depends on where you want to fight forest fires to see "which" firfighting class you want to attend. If you can't get into a firfighting class maybe there's a pinefighting or a cedarfighting class with an opening.

Man, everyone got to you before I could. Since the razzing has been covered, I will address your question.

First, do a search on this topic. It has been covered many, many times.

As for getting a job in FL, you also need to think about the medical side. You need to be an EMT. Hopefully you have National Registry as this will allow you to challenge the state test.

Being an EMT or medic gives you an advantage when applying for the fire academy as those canidates are selected first.

As for which school to attend, it does not matter. They all follow the state guidelines, are very strict, and demand discipline and hardwork.

The state fire exam is a bugger. They are hardcore about their certification there.

It would help if you told us where you are planning on residing and who you want to work for. There are many jobs there but you need to be a FF/EMT at a minimum.

Being in here is like working in a fire station. If we give you a hard time, it just means we love ya.

You have to worry when you don't get ragged on.

Before your done you'll get plenty of real info from guys down in FLA.

No one school is better than the other because your final exam is all regulated by the state. All employers care about is if you have your FL fire standards or not. School attended is of no concern.

There are only 30 academies in FL and they are all about the same. Fire academy is too big of a business for anyone to get a negative rap and the only way that would happen is if their students were consistently failing.

What would be of a benefit to you however is to attend the academy nearest the place you want to work. You get a lot of exposure to potential employers and coworkers, due to guest instructors and word of mouth. You never know who is watching so always be on your A game.
