Having experienced only two member deaths within my department we realize we need some concrete guidelines for both line of duty and off duty funeral procedures. I am also looking to find how different Associations handle the financial burden of losing a brother. My Association has nothing in writting on this and we need to move now rather than later. Thanks for any assistance.

Ken,

Because you appear to be seeking information on behalf of an "Association", are you speaking of your IAFF Local? If so, and as a California career agency, you should seek contact with California Professional Firefighters and the International Association of Firefighters, including Locals in your area.

If you are a volunteer agency, I'd suggest networking with the Fire Districts Association of California, as well as the National Volunteer Fire Council.

Whether career or volunteer, the California State Firefighters Association should also be able to help your association/agency/organization in seeking California-specific resources and information, especially in regard to death benefits for those who die in the line of duty, or due to duty related causes.

Best Wishes,

Brian
