Fire Stations of Irish Origin or history

Just thougth I'd post this up as both a matter of interest and for my own collection purposes, I'm a firefigther / Paramedic with Dublin Fire Brigade over here in Ireland and have been hangin around this site for a long time.

And from previous visits over to the US mainly for St Patricks day I've seen an abundance of Fire houses that have a long history with there Irish brothers, and just wanted to know if any of the members out there are part of that brotherhood or if your house has a shoulder flash/patch that is irish related ? ie:- The Fire Figthin Irish ?

Just outa curriosity and if there was any way of gettin my hands on those patchs....were puttin them altogther in a framed cadinet and placin them in our rec room in the station

Raleigh and Durham,NC's station 7s both have Irish motto's. I know Durham has t-shirts and patches. Raleigh station 7 has it on the back of their truck and a clover on the front. You can go to Durhamfire.net and see theirs as well as try to get a t-shirt or patch. Hope this helps.

There are a few houses that have Irish logo's Engine 44 comes to mind, and the Gaelic Fire Brigade on the south side(a members only bar - The north side irish brigade dropped the "irish" because of some german complaints! :rolleyes: ) . We dont really use patches here but I could see if they have some stickers.

And I checked out that DC site....excelent....If u check out those pictures of Dublin 2005 I marched with the DC Pipe and Rums as part of the Irish Honour guard

They are private, members only bars (pubs) for firefighters. They were founded after the 1980 strike and any firefighters are welcome to join unless you worked during the strike or came on the job during the strike. Cheap drinks and lots of stories - but no scabs. The Southside club is called the Gaelic Fire Brigade and the Northside club Is just the Northside Fire Brigade, renamed after some non irish complained (german whiners! LOL:D ).

Thanks for the info ChicagoFF, i really never knew they exsisted and I've marched 3 times in the NY paddies day parade and those 3 times it was never once metioned to me about those bars.....

Oh I'l have to mate.....Were actually looking into were to head for Paddies next year...we've done NY twice and were gona do our home parade this year, so u migth just see us over there for the next one

Thier are a tremedous amount of Irish brothers in the FDNY one of the companies has the Fightin' Irish Leprachan as a shoulder patch...I think it is one of the Brooklyn Compnays....You are better off looking up Emerald Societies.
I know of more than one company using the Tri-color as the marking on it's
tools! (halligans, hooks, lights....etc..)

Thanks johnnypuke, I've seen alot of the tools, shoulder flashs etc... done like that alrigth but when i was over there I was just to "Intoxicated" to even get a chance to drop into houses and get some patchs...the houses that I did drop by, we made sure to drop off a few cases of Paddy Whiskey just to keep the cold at bay on those long nites.....and they were welcomed with warm arms

The fighting Irishman patch in the FDNY is 44 Engine. It is located on the upper east side of manhattan.

Also, I think Boston Engine 50 had a patch with an Irishman.....

Thanks a lot nyckftbl, my fire house is North Strand Fire Station here in Dublin or as most people know it as "Number 4" so the "Firefigthin Number 4" is kinda our moto.....so Engine 44 would be kinda our sister station when u think of it....There also startin to call us the "Tunnel Rats" because of a 6-8 Kilometer tunnel spanning from the Dublin Docks to Dublin Airport underneath the city, and were the first response to it...

But thanks for the info on Engine 50 in Boston I wasnt aware of that one, much appriciated

I did mate...was a great match and was well played by the FDNY, i hope that it becaomes an annual thing that will last as long as my carreer does and beyond, all i can say about the afters of the match were that there were a hell of alot of sore heads the following morning.... !!!

But great game and great for DFB / FDNY relations.....looking forward to next years game....

Well, the game is every year but we alternate sides of the pond each year. This October it is here in New York. We'll be heading back to Dublin in 2007 though. Those sausages and chips were nice at the afters party. Oh yeah, and the booze was good too.
