Good day everyone. I was wondering if anyone could help me? My Name is Darryl and I am a fire fighter and paramedic student from Canada. I am looking for information on the scopes of practices for each state. I need this information to write a research paper on the difference and similarities between the USA paramedicine and Canada Paramedicine and I cannot find solid information on this topic.

So please if anyone can help me find this I would be great.

Hey Darryl,

I would start with the NREMT scope of practice, as it is the most standard across the US. You can compare this to the new PCP/ACP standard in Canada.

Here is a link to the UD national standard. It is currently under review and there is a draft of the new standard in circulation too.

NREMT - Scope of Practice (http://jems.com/data/pdf/SOPFinal4.0.pdf)

And here is the NREMT site for more info and contacts.

NREMT Home Site (http://www.nremt.org/about/nremt_news.asp)

And don't forget the NHTSA which is the home of EMS in the US.

NHTSA - Emergency Medical Services Division (http://www.nhtsa.gov/portal/site/nhtsa/menuitem.2a0771e91315babbbf308 11060008a0c/)

And in case you don't have it yet, here is a great source for Canadian info, including links to each province's program.

Paramedic association of canada. (http://paramedic.ca/)

Thank you for all of your help.

No problem. Sorry I couldn't give you more, but I'm a FF/FR, not a paramedic. I just happen to hang out with a few. ;)

And for next time, you'll always get a better response in the EMS General Forum than these ancillary forums. They just don't get the viewers. :)

And for a quick plug, try FOOPS.org (http://www.foops.org/) for an excellent paramedic/ems site with a forum.
