I don't hear much on them hiring. I think they look at their call guys first. But, I'd check the City of Rutland website every so often.

Hey, what part of VT? Odds are good I'll be moving to the Burlington area around June or July, so I am looking for info on the stations in that area.

Needle, if you need contacts for the Burlington area, let me know.

I can get you whatever you need.

If things go as planned I'll end up in either Colchester or Essex Junction. I'm a FF/EMT-B so I'll probably be joining both the FD and the RS for whichever area I end up living in. My first lame question is what is the frequency for dispatch? I need to know if my current radio/pager will work up there.

WHY?? only kidding it's a pretty good place to live. Both the towns you mentioned have good fire and rescue. We do often joke that Burlington really isn,t a part of VT. "Sorry if anyone from Burlington is reading" I,m sure that tose who live closer to Burlington can get you some contacts. I will have to say Doug Brent is the chief, I think in So. Burlington, he is a gem. Nice guy.
Good luck

Yes, Doug is the chief of South Burlington Fire. Happens to be someone... lets say, very close to me. ;)

Burlington, South Burlington, Williston, Colchester, that whole section of Chittenden county is EXPANDING rapidly. Populations are increasing, cities are re-establishing themselves in new ways, and it's absolutely the "metropolitan" area of Vermont. All the fire companies are relatively busy, most averaging a few runs per day. Burlington averages around 2-3 fire calls a day, as well as probably 15 or so medical runs. South Burlington averages 1-2 fire runs a day, and 5-8 medical calls on average. Don't know too much about the vollies though.

OH did I mention VT is a very small state and you never know when you will bump into some one you know, even on line!!

Needle ...

Can give you detailed info on both fire departments in Colchester (Mallets bay and Colchester Center) and Essex (Essex Town and Essex Junction) as I was a member of "The Center" for 13 years before moving to Louisiana, and before that was a member of Essex Town for 5. All 4 are all vollie and run between 300 and 600 a year. They all do heavy ... and 3 of the 4 run EMS first response in some form (Junction does not). Any other info you need I'll be happy to provide.

EMS in both Essex and Colchester is paid M-F daytime and vollie nights and weekends. Last figures I saw they were both running in the area of 1200-1400 runs per year.

Feel free to contact me at my e-mail addy on my profile.
