Need help

Hi I am new to this forum. I am looking for any advice anyone can give me. I am a certified Firefighter I and II in the state of Ohio and Proboard. And will be finished with my EMT-B in a week. What now? Do I need to get my paramedics? Also with proboard does that mean I can go to any of the listed proboard states and am automatically certified there? or will I need to retake each states test? Do I get extra points for the proboard certificate? Also if anyone knows of any departments hiring would be helpful. Or what websites are good to watch for postings. Thanks for the help

Not sure what a proboard is but if you are interested in getting a fire or ems job outside of Ohio then look into the National Registry testing for EMT's. As far as paramedic schooling, that would be up to you. Most states require you to be an EMT when applying for a firefighting position while some dept's look for paramedics.

National Registry is good in all states that recognize this form of testing. Also, if you are interested in looking for fire jobs outside of Ohio, you may have to be re-certified in a specific state. Some states will take your current certification but you would have to do some research.

I'm in Michigan and I was looking into being a firefighter in Florida. Now in order for me to transfer my certification there, I would have to have met all of Florida's criteria. The only thing that stopped me there was that Florida conducts live burn training in their academies where Michigan does not.

First off were did you get your certs? most places will help you get a job.
Second, with the medic part. I would just waite and try to get on a department. some will pay for it. and plus try to get experience first before you go for the medic. I have been a firefighter for nine yrs. I am currently a vol. but am tring to go full time. I have my 120 hr and am going to take the bridge for my 240 hr.

I know that the city of Cinn. is takeing apps. on line starting tomarrow. and Dayton is going to possibly latter this spring. Columbus is also going to test this spring.
