HAHA so true...

Welcome to America the new socialistic and politically correct country.

I was listening to the radio and someone was making a big stink because everyone is saying Merry Christmas when there are other holidays in december, so they wanted everyone to just say Happy Holidays.

No offense to the folks from NJ, MD, NY, or DE

but I avoid 95 North of Arlington, VA to not pay for your tolls. That and the funky smell around Newark.

That being said:

New Jersey - The Toll Booth State.

A couple of years ago Massachusetts (where I used to live) changed their slogan from "The Sprit of America" to (get this):

Massachusetts, Make It Yours.

Since then, Massachusetts has lost 170,000 people who have chosen to make someplace else theirs. In 2004 it was 68,000 people who left Mass. (the only state to lose population) and in 2005 another 100,000 left Mass. Only RI and MA lost population. And they think that I will move back there.

DaSharkie....95? Oh, you mean the highway, I thought you were talking the speed limit. :D

There is "rumour" that an outside company is looking to purchase the Turnpike/Parkway and actually remove the tolls. I'm not counting on it though.

Bro. Sharkie - No offense taken. In fact, we would rather have traffic from Virginia and points south use I81. 81 only runs thru about 10 miles of Maryland, so we can live with that. You're in West By God, then 10 minutes later You're in Pennsyltucky. That's I-81. Biggest problem with Southern tourists using 95 is the traffic backups from the toll booth areas, when our toll taking equipment gets jammed with Confederate money. :D :D :D

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!........

DaSharkie
12-30-2005, 05:24 PM
Chief,

We always go up I-81. Take 95 North onto the Beltway, then out 270 and up US 15 through Gettysburg and onto I-81 through PA onto 84 in PA, NY, and CT.

Costs us a whopping $1 to go up that way, and adds maybe 45 minutes. Nicer drive, more relaxed and less traffic (until you hit around Hartford, CT.)

I even stick it to Massachusetts by avoiding the Mass Pike and not paying the 50 cent toll there.

I can't help it, I am cheap.

I still say: New Jersey; The Toll Booth State.

You're right on track. If you're coming North and know in advance that the Beltway is jammed, get off 95 onto 17 West at Fredericksburg Va. and go to Delaplane Va and pick up 15 North there. Very Senic drive. If you've noticed, there's a point about 10 miles North of Frederick, Md. where the road swings right up against the base of the Mountain, a mile or two before the Md 77 interchange. The Presidential Retreat, Camp David, is up off 77 on the mountain there. Mrs H and I have a summer place west of Camp David. Beautiful Country up there. :)

Capey,
This is that friendly ballbusting that occurs in most fire stations across the country. It is not mean spirited, well some of it is, it is meant in a sarcastic manner. Occasionally some will cross a line, but they are quickly dealt with.

Since I can remember, people have made fun of NJ. I got no problem with them. I just wish they would move AC alittle closer to Philly. Sure, sometimes I wish they would cut the bridges and hope it just floated away. But there are some mighty fine people on the other side. For the last few years I have also enjoyed the fact that the tolls on the bridges are one way. Its free to enter jersey but you gotta pay to leave. :D

"New Jersey, Come See For Yourself",

January 12, 2006

The new slogan for New Jersey has been chosen by the people of the state. Over 11,000 people voted by phone and on the internet. The final tally was close, but we have a clear winner.

The winning slogan is:

"New Jersey, Come See For Yourself", and was first submitted to us by Jeffrey Antman of Passaic, New Jersey.

Thank you to all who contributed ideas and took the time to vote - I am proud to be the Governor of a State whose residents came forward with thousands of ways to tell the world that New Jersey is a wonderful place to live, work and play.

Thats is actually on the Garden State Parkway, not the NJ Turnpike.

They made it .70 one way because they made it free the other way. Looks like most toll plazas are being made 1 way now. Pay your .70 going north, return trip is free. Kinda, sorta makes a crazy type of sense.....I think, maybe.

Classicly uninformed, wasn't he?

They also did it so they could set up the high speed EZ pass lanes. You can fly through them at 80, err, I mean 65 MPH w/o javing to stop at the toll booth.
