Random thoughts:
1. How come no one but me screamed traitor when Roger Clemens did virtually the same thing last year?
2. The Yankees had no choice but to make this deal. Their other options for a center fielder (especially Juan Pierre) fell apart. No way was Bubba Crosby going to get them to the playoffs, although he is an excellent ballplayer. There were no potential trades possible for a name CF. They were backed into a corner.
3. If there is one party to blame in all of this, it is the Red Sox front office. You have one of your most talented players, who obviously has delivered in the past. He was one of the guys who was a club house force. He was one of the loyal guys in the past. So what do you do? You offer him a 3 yr. deal at over $3 million a year less than what other teams are offering and then demand that he accept the deal by 12/24 or go elsewhere. No negotiations. What the hell was that? You treated the guy like garbage.
4. I don't like him. He is dumb (ESPN introduced the story on the deal by saying "The idiot has found a new village", he is too flaky for NY and he has a worse arm than Bernie.
5. He will probably hit .320, hit 30 HR, 100 RBI.
6. Manny sucks.

The front office definitley blew this one. I wonder what Theo would have done, if Lucchino did't blow that op, either.

He'll fit right in.. with the shave and a haircut, he's the new darling of the Yankees. I wonder if he took the Queer Eye for the Straight Guy's advice?
5. He will probably hit .320, hit 30 HR, 100 RBI.
I think you will be accurate on this, providing of course, he doesn't get hurt.
6. Manny sucks.
His condo at the Ritz-Carlton is on the market, he wants out of here. The problem is, nobody wants him, unless he's willing to come down a bit on his salary, which would fund my FD's budget for 10 years at the present time!

I spent some time today researching your point. I can confirm that my research concludes that Manny does, indeed, suck.
But he may soon suck in a Met uniform.

I am happy to report that the 2006 Chicago White Sox will feature two players from the 2005 Championship team that re-signed for less money then was offered from several other teams. Paul Konerko and Jon Garland both chode to stay in Chicago. The White Sox will be the team to beat in 2006. If the starting pitching remains healthy, they have a very good chance of repeating. Never thought I would get to say that.
