I just bought an older 1986 Cairns Sam Houston N6A on Ebay. I am going to redo it by stripping it with CitriStrip. That worked good on previous helmet. On another helmet I painted it with engine block paint and it worked fine but I would have liked a more glossy look like the original paint. Any suggestions? Also, the main reason I came on here is to ask how to take the liner out. I want to wash the earflaps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well.......I used a gloss black paint to repaint a helmet. I put several coats of paint on it after I primed it and let each coat dry good before applying another....then............... .....I set the oven on `150 and put it on the bottom shelf for about 15 minutes and took it out. Then I set the oven to 200 and let it set for 15 minutes.... Both times I left the oven door cracked..... It stunk up the place but it worked!
I called Cairns years ago and asked for advice on paint. They told me straight up that they used a sherwin williams gloss paint to paint the helmets and then the final coat was baked on. They did not offer the advice of what temp and how long.... I just experimented....and it worked.
The guy has been wearing the helmet for about a year and the paint is still holding up good.
