The wife and kids are buying me a new electric bass for Christmas, and I was wondering if anyone has seen a guitar strap with a FF theme?
Maybe a bit overkill, but...

I would contact a leather artisan and have one custom made to what you want.
What kind of bass? Back in the day, (I put myself through college playing bass in a rock band and doing a production tour of "Godspell") I had in the following order....
a Dan Armstong/Ampeg (the one with the clear plexiglass body)
Fender Jazz bass (custom walnut finish w/maple neck)
Gibson G-3 Ripper (black)
My amp was a 100 watt Marshall brain pushing through four 15" Altec Lansing speakers in Traynor cabinets...can you say "loud"? ;) :D
Paul McCartney, Jack Bruce, Greg Lake and Chris Squire were my "bass guitar heroes".

Not sure what she has in mind. I had an old Fender axe that came up MIA on my last return from Korea (About 20 years ago). I feel like I need some kind of creative outlet, and since I played from '69-82, I thought I'd take it up again. Kinda' like riding a bicycle... Lot's of new chops out there... Back in my day it was Beatles covers and surf music! Always wanted a viola bass like Paul. Saw one advertised for only a thousand $.
I will look into having someone do a custom for me. I saw one at the shop with an American Flag motif, and thought maybe someone made one for our type.
Keep safe Cap!

Just did a google search for "guitar strap flames" -
One of these has flames:

This one looks pretty cool:

Another from Amazon.com:

Here's a real pretty one:

So, if it's fire you want, looks like there's a lot out there to choose from...

The Hofner bass guitar went up in price after Paul McCartney was shown playing it, and it was renamed "The Beatle Bass". The price of VOX amplification equipment also went up becuase of the lads from Liverpool!
I have a early 70's vintage Gibson B25 acoustic guitar that I am thinking about taking up again... for as you know, most bass players are frustrated guitarists! :D

I picked up a nice strap with flames on it at my local guitar shop. It shouldn't be too hard to find.
How many others on here play?

I just recently decided to try and learn to play accoustic guitar. I am finding finger placement at the frets(sp) the most challenging.
I am trying to learn from a DVD that the sales person at the music store suggested but its not helping my confidence much in mastering finger placement. :(
How did you learn how to play and what would you suggest?

No, someone trained you.
Take the same approach to the guitar. Get an instructor, take some lessons and see where it takes you!
I myself only took lessons for a year (I was 12 years old and that was all my Mom, a single parent could afford at the time) but learned a lot by listening to records. I have a knack for being able to listen to a song and start playing along with it.

I took lessons for years, but I know many guitar players that are good that didn't have any formal lessons. If you know any decent guitar players, see if they will sit down with you and basically give you some free lessons here and there. I teach guys here at the station frequently for nothing.
Some things to consider...First, make sure you have a tuner. A lot of guys buy a guitar, but then don't spring another $30 for a tuner. Your guitar WILL go out of tune and it will sound bad no matter how good your fingering is when it's out of tune. Second, ask around at guitar stores or any local musicians you know for references for a good beginner guitar teacher. There are more bad instructors than good ones...and try to find an instructor that likes the same kind of music you want to learn. If you want to rock, don't go to a guy that will teach classical. Sign up for a month or two of lessons. This should get you to a point where you're comfortable tuning your guitar, have a plan for how to go about getting better, and hopefully can read tablature. Once you understand tabs, I would start learning some of the simpler songs that you like to listen to. Playing songs you like keeps you interested and keeps you practicing.

I bought a Ibanez guitar that came with a electronic tuner - I try and tune it before I attemp to practice.
I have been working between 36 and 50 hours of OT lately so once I cut back I will try and pick up some lessons with a live person :D

Thanks, but you wouldn't be near as impressed if you knew how much time I wasted in middle school, high school, college, and yes...occasionally at the fire station...playing. I'm no prodigy, but I'm commited.
You don't do any kayaking do you? Jefferson City is smack dab in the middle of some of the best kayaking in the country.

No, but one of the guys on my shift is into rafting and kayaking big time. You can't even walk through his house with out tripping over kayaks and such. He's a raft guide somewhere in the Smokies, too. I'd like to try the rafting thing; don't know about the kayak. If you're ever in the area, look us up.
