I never expected to see my picture on firehouse.com. Click on the fire pics on the front page for the Hartford, MI fire. The person at the pump panel in the third picture down is me. I'm technically retired but in this case I operated the pump for about four hours so the young kids could pack up etc.
This is the largest employer in the community and I am happy to report that they were able to salvage some equipment and be in full operation at their other plant within a week. Some employees will have to work nights and weekends. They now are considering a sprinkler system. It's about time.
Stay safe,
Pete

WOW! The amount of water usage is just incredible. I can't imagine that much water flowing out for one incident, although I suppose it happens quite regularly. Coming from a small Hill Billy Bucket Brigade station, I am not even sure what 2.1 million gallons of water looks like LOL.

Pete:
We JUST went over this in another thread. You still have to have your gear on to run the pump! ;)
What's that? You're retired?
You going to tell me that they didn't let you keep it when you retired?
Seriously;
You caught a big one!
Your adrenaline must have been off the scale.
Congrats. I see they caught your "best side". :cool:

The water figures are fairly accurate. The two pumpers at the draft site kept a log of how many tankers (tenders) they filled. All tankers are 3,000 gals per regional protocol. The city water pumped was easy since they have an automatic recording device on water used. Just subtract "normal" from actual and you have the figure. The big problem was the wind. Steady at 50 mph with higher gusts.
I'm over 60 and I was tired by the end of the day. (Sorry Harve) I quit wearing an air pack at age 50 and "retired" at 55. See too many friends that have heart attacks on the fireground. Most of what I do now is try to explain to the young kids how to stay safe.

Looks like a good job all the way around. Congrats. :) I understand the over 60 part, in fact, I've understood it for 4 years now. :D I had my own moment last week also, see the second item at www.GDVFD18.com That's me in the red suit.
