What do you do with your glasses when you are putting on your BA?
Turnout coat pocket? Do any of you use a hardshell case or anything?
Just wondering!

While en route, I remove my glasses and hang them on the helmet hook in the engine. Or, when I take my SCBA mask out of its bag, I throw my glasses into the bag and hang the bag on the helmet hook. I have nice sturdy glasses, thick plastic frames not wire, and they don't have those annoying little nose pads that get bent out-of-whack.

Hard shell case tucked inside coat pocket. Don't need them in a smoke filled room.

I keep my mask bag tucked into the roll of the dash at the windshield and I just lay my glasses on top of the bag. There is virtually no chance of them getting lost or crushed up there.

I used to hang mine on the ring with the accountability tags. After Lasik, that's just one of the many little problems with glasses that I don't have anymore :)

My wife had LASIK about 5 years ago. She went from 20/400+ to 20/15!

My vision is not near that bad, but I"m sooooo sick of wearing glasses, I think I'll get it done too!

I have a hard case and I either a) put them in the case and set them in the center console of our engine or b) put them in the inside pocket of my turnout coat. I have the smaller glasses with the nose pads and such.

I am actually going to try out contacts in the next few months and several of our firefighters use them and don't have any complaints except for those overnight runs but they use the hard case and put their glasses in it.

if i know that i'll be going right into service when we arrive, i'll put my glasses on the dog box of the engine and mask up. However, i do keep a hard case in my turnout coat, so i can put them in there at any time. (with the way things work at the academy, the hard case works out really well)

For now,I take them off when packing up and put them on the doghouse inside the rig and hope they don't get knocked off while I am away.
I should get an eyeglass kit or LASIK but I will be taking a(maybe permenent) leave of absence from my volunteer department so I will wait to see what I'll do about that need.

I leave mine on the dog house or on the dash board.

I keep a soft case in the bag that I carry my mask in so that I can stow them away if I must put on my mask. My mask has an eye glass insert that can be removed and an elastic strap attacked to them in case I need to work without the mast and don't want to damage my regular eyewear.

If you can manage it, try to leave it in the glove box on your truck while en route
or if you're in the jump seat and can't take two seconds when arriving on scene
to get them there.
Thanks, Dave

I used to just manage to fit my glasses inside my mask when I needed to mask up....somehow they fit? But were a pain to take off when it came time to drop the mask...had to be careful I didnt lose them. As for contacts....I leave my Solution and Contact Case in my kitchen this way if we get a job in hte middle of the night I can throw them in real quick.

I honestly don't have a problem with my glasses, for the juniors we have the pulldown face shields so I have enough room for my glasses, when I start with SCBA's I'm going to get the insert or contacts.

I was very confused on where to put my glasses at first, but after asking some of the other guys what they did with their. They just told me to set them on the dash or on the dog box before we got out. It really differes from truck to truck, since I usually ride the 2nd rig out, I just put them on the dash a minute or so from the scene. This is of course if I need my SCBA, if SCBA is not an issue than I just leave em on.

I keep a hard-shelled case in my bunker pants pocket. That way, my glasses are with me at all times. Sometimes, things go south and you leave a structure from a different way than you came in. If that happens, I can pull my mask and put on my specs to see.

I, too have a hard-shell case in my turnouts.
Normally will ditch the glasses to the case and leave in the engine by the pump panel.

BTW had a LASIK about 3 years ago, but am one of the 10% that needs a "Touchup". I'm back to 20/40 from 20/15. Legal to drive non-emergency, but need the specs to feel comfortable. As soon as can come up with a spare $1300, will have the procedure re-done!

Keep Safe, Y'all

Depends on what im doing that month. If Im fighting fire I ditch them before I get in the engine. If Im driving I wear them but then again my vision is only 20/40

I carry a hard case with me in my gear, but I havn't used it.

The last big fire I was at, I told the probie to hold onto my glasses for me while I went inside. I just stumbled around once I got out of the fire until I reconnected with said probie to get my glasses back.

usually I just hope have my contacts in when we get a fire, so I don't have to worry about where to put my glasses.
