Firefighters raise money for muscular dystrophy

NORTH COUNTY STAFF

American Fork firefighters collected approximately $14,000 in donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association during what Mayor Ted Barratt proclaimed as "Utah Firefighters for MDA Week."

"We would like to thank everybody for their continued support, especially in light of everything else that has been going on," said coordinator Lee Cabell."It was good to see people contribute to MDA. Those suffering from this disease are affected every day of their lives."

Included in one day's offerings was a set of car keys. Anyone missing items may contact the American Fork Fire Station at 98 N. Center.

The funds will be used to assist in "providing medical service at local clinics, durable equipment, summer camps, research grants, support groups and public education seminars for children and families."

Barratt praised American Fork firefighters for being one of the top departments for raising money in the state and one of the top in assisting state agencies, namely UDOT, with incidents in the area.

He commended the firefighters "extensive training, strength, endurance, courage and selfless concern for the welfare of our residents."
