This is nice, from what I can tell it appears to be some type of Rescue Vehicle and it needs to go ouside to get ripe.
Just an hint and suggestion, try next time shooting a little back from the vehicle to get a full shot of the truck or apparatus.

Hey all...click the link in the first post for more pictures. There are about 10 or so of them. I know I should have shot it further back but the pics had to be taken in the fire hall and we are cramped for space with 2 engines and this huge thing in there. It showed up at 11pm so it was dark outside and the flash wasn't good enough to get good pics, but there are some others there showing the inside and different compartments.

You will see some are in daylight before they had lettering on them. This was down in Florida at American Lafrance when the Asst. Chief and our mechanical guru went down there to check it out. As well as it showing up at our station and the pics like the one I posted.

"Equipment Truck" is a name that is unheard of here in this area. What does it carry? and why have one?

Jack, You got me. What can I say? :D :D
I'm thinking that it is a small version of what we call Squads here in downtown Maryland. The term "Truck" here is ONLY used to denote a Ladder Company. I've heard some real proud Chiefs say they "Got our new Truck in" only to find out that they were talking about an Engine, not a Truck. Funny how Terminology changes around the Country.

We like ours, but we have had a couple of fit and finish problems with the Engine. Nothing major, but a little annoying that they couldn't catch some obvious items before it rolled out of the factory. The Aerial has been almost perfect so far (knock on wood).
Both of our units have the 300hp mercedes deisel, and it has plenty of pep in the 24,000lb engine, but it is slightly underpowered for the 36,000lb aerial.
They both drive and handle very well by our standards.

Some departments call it a squad. I wouldn't say its a small truck by any means (it's enormous :)). It carries the jaws of life, spare bottles, extra hose, generators, med bags etc etc. This truck responds to almost everything (fires, accidents etc., and occassionally a medical if our primary is already in service on another call). It has our water rescue equipment on it as well. It also carries 3-4 firefighters in the crew compartment, and a driver and officer.
There are some daylight photos in the second link I posted, just without lettering on it.

So far we love it. We have taken it on many test rides and only one call since we got it. Seems to drive well, corner well and good acceleration. With as big as the compartment area is on the bag and with the amount of equipment the truck has on it, the vehicle handles and seems to operate very well.

Hey, since we are talkin about new rigs, we just put this beast into service this past saturday. Havent run more than a medical call in it so far. And yes, it is a KME, pretty much our whole fleet is KME.

Or, in Providence you might call it "Special Hazards" instead of a rescue, squad, or "Large Wheel Mounted Vehicle with Enormous Tool Capacity." :D

We call our first reponse for medical runs a rescue, this we call an equipment truck, I have also heard it called a squad. Squad/Rescue/Equipment truck, call it what you will :)

Were you guys on the Working Fire videos a while back for a buttload of houses that caught on fire on Easter I believe. The shakes were really dry and it was pretty big. I have that video somewhere I'll have to dig that up.

RFRD, you are correct. The fire was a couple of years before I joined. I wanna sayit was in '99. Yeah we had a firefighter go through the roof on one of them. What is sad is that neighborhood where it happened is retarded and hasnt learned their lesson. They still have the same cedar shake shingles on their roofs.
Our new engine is rather large and has a hard time getting down some of our narrow farm roads. But man does it look impressive. Every light, including compartment and interior cab lights, are LED's. The only halogen lights are on the actual headlights.

Awesome looking "VEHICLE"
Around these parts, we say "truck" and most of the time we mean "vehicle." Even in different parts of Wisconsin, you say "squad" and they mean an ambulance unlike the large rescue squads on the east coast. Kinda like the "tanker" vs. "tender" on the west coast.
Typically an "equipment truck" in this area of the state is a vehicle that carries fire support stuff, lights, fans, bottles, maybe extrication equipment, rescue stuff, etc. Basically like the "squads" on the east coast but maybe just a bit smaller.
I personally think like hwoods......a squad is a large rescue vehicle. An ambulance is an ambulance. A truck is a ladder and an engine is an engine.
230 years of tradition unimpeded by progress!!!
