Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel I'll just see if anybody can help. My dept has a well established Knox program but our area is also getting alot of gated driveways. So what I'm looking for does anybody have a specific "ordinance" pertaining to Knox key switches / boxes for gated areas. I contacted Knox but they don't have anything this specific.

We have some similar situations. We have some gated communities and we have gotten with the residents about this. We have several things in place.
On many commercial gated areas, we have got the company to place a opticom sensor on the gate to open as we roll up.
Another thing that we do is have a garage door type remote for the gates to the community in the first due apparatus.
Finally, since we have such a good rapport with the community, we haven't had a problem getting the access codes to the gates from both communities and individual homes, we simply pencil in the code next to the address in the map book. As a back-up, most of these areas also have the Knox-Box key access, which is opened through our dispatch.

Our ordinance is, any gate that more than 2 families (or maybe it is 2 or more, I forget) must have a Knox key on the opener, or a Knox padlock, or something along those lines. Plus gates that lead to high value areas, etc.

We have Knox box keys for mostly all of the commercial buildings. For gated communities we require an automatic gate opener system triggered by what we affectionally call the donut. It is a ground loop transmitter mounted under our vehicles so when you pull up over the ground loop by the gate it automatically opens it. The transmitters are made by Reno A&E.
