Woman rescued from Strait calls for help again

Times Colonist; Canadian Press

Monday, July 25, 2005

A woman who spent nine hours floating across the Georgia Strait when she fell overboard two weeks ago was involved in another incident Sunday that required coast guard help.

Victoria-based rescue officials responded to a call for help around 5 p.m., from the Benedicte, saying the vessel was taking on water near Galiano Island.

The Benedicte is the same boat that Iwona Slivarich fell from on July 13 when a wave hit the vessel. Slivarich floated 24 kilometres before she was rescued.

Slivarich was on the boat with a man on Sunday when a coast guard hovercraft and vessel and a commercial vessel responded. A pump was supplied before the Benedicte was towed to shore.

It was my old unit, Joint Rescue Coordination Centre that would have directed resources for both of these incidents. :D

She should probably stick to shore based activities.

More likely a hot Coast Guard officer involved. But come on hon, you can only play the damsel in distress role once in awhile

Good thing she isn't a pilot!

I'm still wondering how she spent 9 hours in the water, bobbing around before being rescued the first time. The waters here are NOT warm and you will become hypothermic within 15 or so minutes. So unless she was sailing with a survival suit on ..... who knows. And as for the survival suit, I'm not sure how long they're rated for either.

Shouldn't there be a follow up to this about her being on the next voyage of the USS Minnow?:D

Pfire, I sent a msg to the Major on Tues asking him that same question, and a few others. Hopefully I'll have a good answer by Thurs.

.... The envelop please....

And the answer to the $64.00 question on "Molly's" 9 hour survival swim is:

Yes, she survived for 9 hours without a survival suit OR a PFD!!! But she was so intoxicated the alcohol kept her from freezing to death I guess. :D

So maybe the comment about the "Good looking CG officer" might not be so far off the mark after all eh? LOL

I thought alcohol INCREASED heat loss from the body which is why "they" tell us not to drink alcohol when going out into cold weather.
