Firehouse Table

Hey guys. I'm new to the forums but I've been reading them just about every day for years now. Me and the guys at work are building a new kitchen table and were thinking of ideas for the table top. Does anyone have any pictures of their firehouse kitchen tables? Or ideas? Thanks!

While neither of my companies has this, I do remember reading it somewhere. Try putting a picture of your patch on it, or the company mascot and motto, or something along those lines. My best advice is to go with whatever you guys would like most.

We're building a new station and if the *&^%$&*!!! contractor will finish it,we're going to have a dinner table in the private area of the station.
You've given me the idea of a table with the department crest or a Maltese Cross on the top.Maybe commission the local high school wood shop class to build it for us.

This isn't really a design, but more of a cool feature for the table. We put a hole, about 3-4 inches in diameter in the middle of the table, then a large garbage can underneath. The table is about a 6 foot round table. That way when we have some small stuff on the table to trash, we can just toss it in the middle. This table also isn't in the kitchen or near a garbage can, so I guess in those situations, it would be pointless.

I don't have a picture but Station 11 here has a 2 tier rotating center piece. The top tier is about 8" to 10" and the second is about 18". You can pass the meal around with out having to stand up.

Remember to put "A shift pulls all the weight" or something similar top notting your own shift. :D :p

Maybe some of the FDNY Brothers can post some pic's of their tables. I remember seeing some really bicthen tables when I visited.

Oh yeah. I guess I shoulda' checked that first. Thanks to everyone who has responded, I appreciate your time. It's so funny, I've been reading the forums for so long I feel like I know most of you personally. Anyway, I'll post a pic when we get it done in a few weeks. Thanks again.

Just one more idea is at the end of your table closest to the stove is to cut in a piece of marble or corrion into the table. It will act as a hot plate so you don't ruin the end of the table.

A couple of guys I know on neighboring Depts have built tables out of scrap bowling alley wood. It came out of buildings being demolished, and they used the alley approaches with the arrows on them. They did paint company logos on them, and used pipe wrapped in old hose to build the legs. Everybody at the house kicked in to pay for the supplies that weren't donated, and their names were painted on the table along with those who donated supplies.
