absolutely nothing, but then again the police had DUI checkpoints all over the place before the prom even started. I do have to give them credit, they pulled dozens of kids off the roads last night. The police frequency was going crazy. Couple of the guys got a kick out of listening to the police, waiting to hear someone they knew. It was definitely an awkardly quite night.

Listening to the scanner, one accident so far no PI, one under arrest for suspended reg./minor in possesion/94 C. What a rainy crappy night for kids to drive drunk........

Prom night our area went quiet. Not one call for anything for any of the departments in our area. We have been fortunate the last 2 years having a quiet prom night following a fatal post prom MVA 3 years ago.

Its been years since weve had something bad happen on prom night. My county stages accidents on the school football fields with junk cars and actors. FD, EMS and PD all participate. We even have an air ambulance fly in. I would hope our string of good luck has something to do with our efforts at education;)

Yes they do that here as well , in my county and other countys I've lived in I belive it is a florida program many schools and countys participate in. Also I rmemeber when I was a senior 4 years ago , they had us all go into the auditorium and watch a few videos and had a gentleman talk about losing one of his twin daughters and such. Not one eye was dry after leaving that day. Florida has excellent programs detouring kids from drinking and driving and drinking in general. Good to hear the stats not really busy nights for anyone. Surprisingly we had 5 diff structure fires but only 1 a true structure fire.

We have our school's prom weekend coming up. Thursday afternoon we are doing an extrication demonstration for all of the seniors. We have the entire department, victims (including 1 DOA), EMS, police, STAT Flight, and the Coroner participating. Hopefully it will deter anyone from being stupid. I can't remember any incidents in the past few years, hopefully this year wont be any different.

WE have kids as actors, dressed in prom suits and gouns. It's called Fatal Reality, and is done the week before the prom. So far so good and hoping it stays that way.

We do this in my county. The program is called prom promise...the kids are supposed to promise that they wont be involved with any drinking before, durring, and after prom. I guess it works but most of the kids spend the hour talking and fooling around while we cut out their class mates and fly them out.

In Northern Ontario we have a program "Safe Grad" sounds very similiar to the other programs mentioned. Students are recruited to act as victims and a mock MVA is staged.
Being a 20 Year old Certified Paramedic, I only graduated from high school 2 years ago. I've noticed since the introduction of this program the amount of accidents and fatals do to drinking and party have decreased greatly, not only around graduation and prom but all year.

Prom and Grad nights were quiet around here. The education programs that you guys do i have been trying to get our ambulance and fd to put one on here. No one seems to want to do one around here, any suggestions on how to try and convince people to try it one year??? We can find plenty of cars so thats not a problem. If anyone can PM any suggestions and any info on how you run the demonstrations it would be appreciated.

A lot of schools around here have all night prom partys. After the prom nice coach buses take the kids to the local rec center where activities go on until breakfast is served at 7am. Buses then take the kids back to the hotel where their cars are, those who arrive by limoare picked up there as well. Kids have a great time, and there has not been a prom death in a decade or so, many schools do it for graduation night as well.

As much public education as my department does, I'm sure that we'll put on a good program -- as soon as we get a high school. :D As for now, we only have elementary and middle schools in our town now. The county school district ships our high school aged citizens down the road and out of town for school.

Yesterday I participated in an event similar to what others have listed, however, it was taken a step further. The county gets Calspan (they do crash testing on cars) to set up a crash test rail and perform a T-bone collision. A 911 call recording is played for the students in attendence. A sheriff is called to the scene, and then we were called to extricate. Usually one of the victims is removed from the vehicle and covered with a sheet to add impact. So far this seems to have worked well for us as we havent had any prom related DD accidents in my territory. However there was this accident about 2 weeks ago.

And this crash last week:

While this last fatality didnt involve alcohol or drugs, it seems that it will be a harsh reminder of what can happen when you get behind the wheel. I just hope the message is not lost.

I heard the party was actually the night before....go figure. At our local HS, the kids are bussed to and from the prom from the school. When they get back to the school, the majority stay for an all night lock-in which is sponsored by local businesses and fds. There are games, activities and prizes which the seniors can win. The high light is a car which is the last prize awarded at about 5am.
We've had great success in years past with the program and the kids love it. Matter of fact, my wife and I have chaired it the past 2 of 3 years.

I work for the Huntington Fire Dept. and it sucks to be put on the map by the Pit Bull attack and now Prom Night.....most emergency workers who responded to both incidents deserve a lot of praise for there efforts. Some are still shaken from the events.

Almost all of the high schools have gone to having post prom parties. I know that I attended mine. I have seen different themes, different activities. During my post prom party, we had the opportunity to win a new car if we made a half court or full court shot.
I wish more schools would look into these post prom parties. Plan the right activities and incentives, maybe all of the prom goers would attend.
