Why Should I Move to Stratford/Cherry Hill

I was hoping to gather some opinions that will hopefully be of some use. My wife is a 3rd year medical student. This time next year we will be moving somewhere for her to complete her residency. A few programs have risen to the top.

One is located in Stratford. What I am asking for is your opinion as to why Stratford is a good or bad place to live. If I knew I wouldn't be asking. Just looking for a little fat to chew on from some folks who know instead of some fancy chamber of commerce fluff. Thanks for reading and for any replies.

Stratford is not a bad place to live, just depends on where in the town you are looking at. As for Cherry Hill, your looking to join a Vol. FD after you get settled?? Then head for Stratford great Vol. Dept. as for Cherry Hill I'm not putting them down but 99% career Department with two Vol. Departments which are very small and don't run much. If you look at Stratford then look at the areas that are south of Rt. 30 and West of Laurel Road.

Hey you can even check out Haddonfield, not sure if you want to live in the same town as the hospital or not.

I agree with the above poster, Cherry Hill is 99% career, and the engine cos. rarely go plaecs call wise but the EMS crews always get clals 5-10 times a day but try around to closer vollie companies.

Well where are you looking to go to a paid or volly company because my county,Burlington is 90% volly and there's a few paid Evesham,Willingboro but mostly volly.

I'm not too concerned for me or what I'll end up doing. Mostly looking for opinions on where to live. One requirement (according to my wife) is that it be close to the hospital. I'm not sure where it is located, but I recall it being Stratford/Cherry Hill something or other. Once we get plans finalized (next March) I'll worry about what I'll be doing. In the meantime, just trying to collect info to help w/ her decision as to where she will apply for a residency program. We want somewhere decent since we'll be there for at least 4 years, probably 5. Thanks for looking and for any advice.

As a member of Stratford Fire Company I can tell you that it is an excellant company to belong to. - I came to Stratford back in 1998 and even after I moved out of town and became a Career Firefighter I still make what I can when I can. {Only moved 3 miles out of town}- And as a former Cherry Hill Volunteer {I left in the mid 90's as volunteerisim declined and More and More Career Personnel were hired on} they too are an excellant group but are 90% Career

We are a small town fire company with four pieces of equipment {An Engine, Engine/Rescue, 100' Ladder, and a Utility / Light Rescue. - We serve a 2.1 Square Mile 1st. Due and respond to quite a bit of muital aid alarms. Usual yearly average is somewhere between 400 to 450 runs a year give or take. - We're a busy daytime company and moderate during the evenings, Overnights fluctuate. - Stop in the Station any Tuesday Evening at 7:30 or check us out at www.stratfordfire.com

As far as the community itself....Not a bad town. Taxes are average and homes generally fluctuate from the mid 80's to 250,000 depending on what you're looking for. - Hope to see ya around.

New Brunswick in Middlesex County has 2 hospitals, Robert Wood Johnson & St. Peter's. RWJH is a Lvl 1 Trauma center and St. Peter's is known for heart and maternity care. There are also several smaller Raritan Bay Medical centers in and around the city.

New Brunswick itself I would not suggest a young married couple to live in. It's mostly City folk and college students, I did my stint for 7 years there (grad school too no I wasn't on the 8 year program). However there are many nice towns around the city, Highland Park, East Brunswick, Piscataway (shameless plug). Almost all fire depts. in the County are volunteer except for New Brunswick. There are a few combination departments too, Perth Amboy, Edision, and Monroe.
