I gotta ask what's the height of that fully extended? I have to ask as i have no experience with an aerial. not sure if I could even climb to the top of that without pooping my pants

So, there are my two companies' trucks, or as I like to call them, Old School and New School, lol.

Hey, a couple of them are missing their pumps. Whats up with that?;)

Thats because they are almost real ladder trucks- Not those things with waste-of-compartment and waste-of-valuable-ground-ladder space.

Oh, yeah....and a REAL ladder truck has TWO steerin' wheels!

Precisely, as I mentioned with the one quote from our page: "This is a true truck. It carries no water, except for a couple of cans." And of course the reference to old school vs. new school.

Personally, I'd rather jump off our truck and NOT have an officer tell me to grab the noodle off it...lol...

Normally we send it out at night only so that people dont see it, but we had a really big emergency during the day and we had to send it out to fetch a cat out of a lamp post!

And i think some jokes could be made about the difference between Italian and American 'Ladders'. But i am not going near that with a forty foot pole

NICE!!:) :) :)

Thats what I wish we would have speced. But the "powers" like straight ladders, and since we have to use ours as an engine and an ALS unit size is an issue. That mid mount is a bit large for a band-aid wagon.:D

t13one12
05-01-2005, 01:16 AM
Haha, yeah we are real happy with the way she turned out. Originally the "powers" tried to buy a KME, but after hearing some problems the town near us had with theirs, the membership and officers fought tooth and nail against it. If we bought the demo we coulda had a CD player, but now that it is speced to exactly what we want I guess that's just not important. Although I do have a wide variety of mix cd's :D

Patty,
those helmets are a pain in the ar$e. They are a British Version of the French Gallet...a Cromwell F600 (http://www.helmets.co.uk/wb/pages/fire_services/cromwell_f600.php) The flash hoods do most of the protecting. I am a Senior Officer, so I spend most of my time outside...However, when I have been in to a few live burns, I have hooked my hood back to guage the heat and it still gets up the side of the Helmet.

They are also bad for hearing....people have to be pretty much facing you to hear them...anyone from behind doesn't stand a chance unless they are shouting.

We've had these since 1998/9 when new EU rules came in covering PPE. Before that we had Pacific's and before that the traditional British Cromwell Hemlet....miss that one badly!!!

captstanm1, I have a couple questions on the Butonsville Pierce you first posted. It appears that this rig has an extra short body and wheel base with additional ladder overhang beyond the cab. I assume it’s a 100ft with a 500# tip load. Would you be able to provide me with the wheel base (WB) and overall length (OAL)? I'm a big fan of reasonably sized rigs and that looks like one to me from your pic.

Thanks and Stay Safe

Here is a beautiful 'Old Queen' a 1963 AEC/Merryweather TL owned by the London Fire Brigade. Taken out of service from the reserve fleet in 1983 it is preserved for Funerals and other special occassions.

It was used today in fact at the Funeral of Retired Poplar Fireman Pat Smith, who sadly left us last week.

Here is a shot of our "Quints". Hey Palmer27, I'm from your area originally. Still visit family regularly. I was a former PMFD member for a few years, Nancy Run Fire Co., Bethlehem Twp. Fire Co. and started all of it with Suburban Rescue when I was 14. I'm up in CT now. The aerial pictured was spec'd when I was talking to Bill Butler after you purchased your aerial. We got our two quints with "All Steer". Pretty much the same rigs. 105' straight sticks. First is driver training at our mills and the other at a OMD.

good to hear from a former PMFD brother. good truck to check specs on, its been great for us. Yours must be fairly new with all steer, ours is a '97. No all steer for us, but its only 37' long so it'll go anywhere. stay safe up there.

Haha nope this was a demo unit purchased from E-One about 5 years ago, had 12,000 road miles on it. It came in red  so we had them put some paint over the primer and purchased it. We use to roll a old Ford 50' that we have had since the early 80's. This truck was made for the city of Grand Rapids but I guess they backed out, so we were lucky enough to happen apon her.
