you HAVE to stop basing a price on what year the truck. is. year means nothing as long as its in good working condition. if everything works and it looks sound then go for it. you can check what the going price for these things are just on ebay.

Now what about rust on the underbody? Rust on the chasis? What's the motor condition? Size of the engine? How does it run? Will it fit down your roads? Can your roads handle the weight of it on the bridges, etc? Will it fit in the station? There are so many more questions that need to be asked, it's not as easy as "will it work""

Once again, your enthusiasm is to be commended, BUT.....

Isn't this something that more experienced members of your department, like those who have actual experience with driving/operating apparatus, those who know the streets and roads, bridge weight limits, and those who know apparatus in general should be asking? The info which you provided may as well have been nothing at all- More info is needed, for example......Engine make and model, horsepower and tourque output....Date of last service and/or overhaul of any major components. Tranny Make/Model....Date of last service and/or overhaul. How about the rear? Is it a tandem rear? What make axles? What are the gear ratios? What is the make and model of the suspension? How about the tires? How much life left in them? Are they caps? You provided the size of the pump, but what are the specifics of the discharge/intake set up......Preconnects? Preconnected deluge device? Quick Dumps? How many and what size? Jet Dumps? Has the pump been tested recently and what were the results? Is the lighting package currently NFPA compliant? How about auxiliary lighting devices such as a seperate engine-driven or PTO driven generator? How about the compartmentation? What are the condition of the compartments? Are they rusting? Need paint? Touch-ups? You mentioned a folding tank. Is it on a shelf or does it have an electric or hydraulic device to lower it to ground level? How about the tank itself? Is it stainless? Poly? What is the condition? These are all things to be considered when looking into a "used" purchase. No offense, but a 16 year old "Captain of the Juniors" wouldnt know these things.

Maybe these kinds of posts would be better left to more experienced members of your department- the people who will make the decisions or those who will write the check!
