Let me see if I understand this correctly. You tested for a place that you know nothing about, couldn't even be bothered to cruise down and visit for a weekend before testing. I'm impressed.

FireFly:
Unfortunalty you will find alot of these Jackass's around here. Its to bad some of these so called "Egotisical know it all Jackass's" are to concerned about looking like a Crusty Jake. Little do they know some of these people making these threads are more experienced then they are. Instead of helping people with a concerning tone, they only critisize. What ever happen to the helping hand firemen? are some of you people this sarcastic to the people you server?

Oldman, did anwser your question at least. I would have told you the same thing but in a more professional way.

However Firefly your action's in this thread are concerning tho. I prolly would watch what you say and swollow the bad with the good. What if oldman is the chief of Port Huron? and you just called him a "jackass"? Just ignore people if they dont agree, they will go away when they dont get anymore attention.

Rescue 2947..

Do you know anything about the International Association of Crusty Old Jakes?

Apparently not. Search for the topic "a new firefighters organization" and see what it's all about before spouting off like a know it all probie....

Firefly set the tone...

One word....JACKASS!!

Why is it that there is always some JACKASS who needs to make stupid ass comments? I guess your screen name says it all "OLDMAN"!!

Maybe if Firefly stated that he has been the to Port Huron before and wants more information, this whole thing wouln't have happened. For the record, I had the same impression as oldman 21220.

edited for spelling

Again if you read my post about this whole situation, "Instead of helping people with a concerning tone, they only critisize. What ever happen to the helping hand firemen? are some of you people this sarcastic to the people you server?"

Now take your last couple oaths you made for your "Crusty Jakes" personality.

"* Working together to make the job better rather than fight among each other!

* Respecting each other in the true spirit of brotherhood/sisterhood."

Thanks for proving my point Captain start acting like one, by helping out instead of directing more negativity on your brothers.

Oh my...

Rescue 2947... respecting each other does not mean that you have to agree with everyone's opinion. You made mention of the "crusties" without knowing anything about us. If a probie in your firehouse started spouting off about things he didn't know about, what would you do? You would set him straight. That's all I did in your case.

2947 - Why did you even drag the Crusties into this? Oldman isn't a member of the IACOJ.

I want to first start out by saying, thank you everyone for your comments. Reading what everyone had to say, I guess I could have worded my first post differently. My intentions here are just to get any additional information about the city from the people that know the most. I have posted on here before and had a good turn out from the brotherhood/sisterhood. I was hoping for the same. I didnt think I would get critisized for requesting information. I guess I thought wrong. Thanks again to everybody, I truely do appreciate your imput.

Well first off lets start by anwsering a few points here.

SAFD46Truck: Out of all the people on these forums, you are preaching that to the wrong guy there fella.

It wasnt really directed twords him as much, it was twords oldman, these forums are full of people that all they can do is cause trouble, instead of helping a brother with a positive outlook, they only anwser with a smartass comment. Firefly set the tone by asking for information not asking to be put down. As for Captains first post about firefly calling him a Jackass? that wasnt his first tone it was his second after the fact oldman put him on the defensive with his critisizm.

Your right respect comes from a person that one percives as worthy. Most people get it buy pointing out things with positive intuition not being negaive all the time. As for setting people straight, I would use the term's guide them in the right direction. No harm done Captain, this post to me being more calm about it made me read every word instead of being defensive. Thats what i am talkin about here. Being positive with anwsers will get better resposes because they are more relaxed, and are not on defensive mode.

IACOJRev: 2947 - Why did you even drag the Crusties into this? Oldman isn't a member of the IACOJ.

Well That would be my mistake, Crusties shouldnt have been used. It should have been "Experience member's", as the Association with your group was not clear to me, my appoligies.

Right on brother, there is nothing wrong about trying to get information on where you are applying. The way I see it is there are very few positions available for the line of work we do. So with that you apply when ever and where ever to try and increase your chances. With that you dont check out every place you apply untill you think you might have a strong chance. Good luck!

As for Steamer, looks like your the only one that caught that line :D

As for all the negativity in these forums if some people would just think before they post you wouldnt have all the bickering that we do now.

No harm done carry on!

firefly,

You weren't critisized for asking for information, you were critisized for asking for information after the fact as per your own post. We have people here in Maryland showing up to take tests that haven't even bothered to find out what they are testing for. When you ask a question after the fact it makes it look like you make dedcisions and then look for the knowledge rather than vice-versa. To me, at least, your original post makes you look like one who does and then thinks and people that do that get people killed. You make yourself sound like a 2/20.

Oldman,

I have actually been in the fire service for over 11 years now. I think of myself as a very knowledgeable firefighter. I have and never will put any of my brothers/sisters in danger. I will always put my partners safety in front of my own.

I actually did some homework before I applied and took the test. I am not from the city or area where I applied. So I am not very familiar with the area or department. I was just trying to get as much information possible to help me out if I am called for an interview. I'm sure you know that it is very tough to get into the proffessional ranks of the fire pervice. So I am applying for any and all departments that are hiring. To me, it does not matter where I get a full-time position. I just wanna get in and apply my knowledge and experiance where I can. Thank you again for all the post from everybody. I respect everybody's imput.

Sorry I took so long to chime in here. But I must, having been on both sides of the fence, both wanting a fulltime job as a Firefighter and a Fulltime guy rising through the ranks, I have to say I am both impressed by the professionalism of some and very disappointed and some that assume they are professionals.

Frist off let me say that I may be a liitle biased inregards to FireFly2420, I have worked side by side with him, under his command as well as his commanding officer, he has not only impressed me and other with his decsion making ability in time of need and his ability to lend a helping hand to some one in need of knowledge. Firefly has done quite a bit of research on Port Huron FD and we on the other side as Fulltime Firefighters know it not easy trying to cross over. Many initial interviews on based on knowing more about the City/Township/or Village than the others that are interviewing, I believe that Firefly was trying to do that, obtain more knowledge than what is onlne or in print. MAYBE SOMEONEONE SHOULE HAVE ASKED WHAT HE DOES KNOW, AND ANYONE FROM ANOTHER STATE SHOULD HAVE WORRIED MORE ABOUT ISSUES WITHIN THIER OWN DEPARTMENT AND STATE THAN ANOTHER. ITS VERY DISHEARTENTING TO SEE SO CALLED BROTHERS AND OR SISTERS ATTEMPT TO DEGRADE OTHERS BY ASSUMING THEY ARE BETTER THAN SOMEONE WANTING A VERY HARD TO OBTAIN PRIZE.

Michigan has become a very hard battle ground to obtain the prize of a fulltime firefighters job and even harder job to keep it in growing communities that want more for less, we all should be willing to help out someone for free, not critize, assume, or charge for knowledge that we have obtained over the years.

As for Firefly2420, GOOD LUCK BROTHER, IF PORT HURON DOES NOT WORK OUT, KEEP TRYING, GO TO ONE MORE CLASS AND KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS. You currently work for a dpartment that seems to be growning with leaps and bounds, although it has it's internal problems (WHAT DEPARTMENT DOESN'T hahaha), NEVER STOP TRYING TO OBTAIN THAT DREAM.

I missed the original post so I guess I missed a good one. My only advice to anyone applying in s/e michigan is to get yourself a paramedic license!! In these tough economic times having that license in hand will open a lot of doors for you. It's been 15 years since I was in FIREFLY 2420 shoes and a lot has changed in regards to what these cities are willing to invest to hire someone. In 1989 I wrote the written in my city with 450 other applicants. Last year when we were accepting applications we got less than 40 applicants total. Do we see a problem?
