my brother is a fireman in a colorado department and i wanted to get him a leather helmet for his first year anniversary on the job. I would give him mine, since my fire fighting days have temporarily ended, but i am not parting with that thing for the world. i mentioned my intentions to him but he was skeptical about whether he would be able to wear it. Do any of you work (paid or volunteer) in colorado and wear a leather helmet? He works in brighton, which from my understanding is outside denver.

I'm a volunteer outside of Boulder but I don't wear a leather helmet. He would have to ask his officers at Greater Brighton Fire (which is a combo department last I heard) if that fits the requirements for the uniform in that department. I don't know what the answer would be at my department as I'm perfectly happy with my 1010, and everyone else seems to be as well.

Wearing a leather helmet (and which leather helmet) is completely a departmental decision. Given that, I don't know of any CO depts that allow leathers.
