I want to become a paid firefighter but have a few bad things in the past.

I got arrested two times when i was 18. i was charged with possession of steroids. i got a . ADJUDICATION WITHHELD which is not a convection. and the second time was criminal mischief and battery both misdemeanors.

I can either get the steroid one expunged or the two misdemeanors. i am not sure what one to get.

I am a Florida ff2 and a NREMT-B. i am about to apply for my Florida EMT. I have also ben a volly for 6 month working 24-48 hours a week at the fire house.

I am thinking about starting medic school but not sure if it is worth my time.

do you guys think i have a chance getting a job or should i just move on?

:D

If that's what you really want go for it. From what you say you have to prove yourself in someway to have decent character. If i were you i would consinder enlisting in the miltary to wipe you slate clean. Even if you were able to land a job in a paid dept. those convictions will follow you into the fire dept. unless you do something to prove you can function in the firehouse. I work in a paid dept. and also was in the miltary and have seen many guys who had trouble in the past who were able to overcome past mistakes by serving in the armed forces, myself included. Good luck if you really want to do the job.

Personally, I'd see what you could do about those two other misdemeanors. It sounds like you got a Deferred Prosecution or a PJC for the steroids one. That shouldn't hurt you. If that was all you had, you could technically put "No" where it asks if you have ever been convicted of a crime. I'd try to get those other two misdemeanors on that same level.. but it also depends on how long ago they took place. Having them as "Charges" might not necessarily count you out, but if you have those two misdemeanors as convictions and they happened within the last 3-5yrs. I'd say work on them first. As for the military thing… personally I’m not familiar with going that route. Good luck
