Unless they recently changed it, you should only need hazmat awareness to repsond on MVAs. All EMS personell get hazmat awareness during basic emt school. They don't do hazmat ops, and they respond to MVAs.

any idea if this is written anywhere, and most emt classes around here aren't getting awarness with them not sure about paramedic classes but i know that emt classes aren't. what brought this up is i heard that you need to have atleast FFII and ops, or a medical license to even be on scene of an mva, and was just looking to see if anyone could point in the direction where i might find this. i have called the state on this and they said they will get back to me!
thanks for your help.

Not sure where it's written, but haz ops is required for FFI and II. Haz Ops is not neccessary for response to MVAs. If it was, every cop, flight nurse and EMS provider would have to have it as well.

haz ops is required for FFII not FFI. haz awareness is required for FFI. there 4 levels to Hazmat
-awareness
-operations
-specialist
-I C
as for if they tech ops in EMT-B no it is only awareness I am trained as a specialist
