Never Forget...The bombing of the World Trade Center in New York City
Please keep the victims of 2-26-93 in your hearts.

Ground Zero at 12:18 p.m., the truck bomb exploded February 26, 1993. Four of the six people killed in the attack worked for the World Trade Center's owner, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Most of the victims were having lunch in their basement office, adjacent to the parking garage where terrorists parked their explosives-laden van. Bob Kirkpatrick, 61, Steven Knapp, 47, and Bill Macko, 57, were mechanical supervisors for the transportation agency. Monica Rodriguez Smith was Macko's secretary. All were killed in the bombing. The fifth and sixth victims were Wilfred Mercado, 37, who worked for the Windows on the World restaurant atop the North Tower and was checking in food deliveries in the basement, and John DiGiovanni, 45, a dental salesman who was in the parking garage when the bomb exploded.

Another thousand people suffered injuries. It took 11 hours to evacuate some 50,000 people from the complex.

The blast from the homemade 1,500-pound urea-nitrate bomb blew a hole five stories deep and half-a-football field wide. The explosion badly damaged the tower's inner support beams and caused $500 million in property damage. But the twin towers were repaired, cleaned, and reopened in less than a month.

February 27, 2005 -- Mournful friends and relatives of the six people killed in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing gathered at Ground Zero yesterday morning to mark the 12th anniversary of the attack and dedicate a new temporary memorial. About 60 friends and family of victims Robert Kirkpatrick, John DiGiovanni, Stephen Knapp, William Macko, Wilfredo Mercado and Monica Rodriguez Smith attended the memorial service, which began with a Mass in St. Peter's Church. A moment of silence was held at 12:18 p.m. — the moment when a truck bomb went off in the underground garage on Feb. 26, 1993. The 10-foot-high, stainless-steel monument stands in the family viewing area. It includes a 6-inch chunk of the marble memorial fountain that stood between the two Twin Towers honoring the 1993 victims but was destroyed on Sept. 11, 2001.

I'm grateful for brothers like you who remind the rest of us that there have been other tragedies in the past too that have weighed heavy on the cost of our fellow firefighters. We should do all we can to be aware of many of the sacrifices that have been paid pre 9/11 and post 9/11. For all the calls, all the work and all the sacrifices paid by everyone who ever gave of themselves--Thankyou once more, from a humbled little sister!:)

Thanks Ray. If you were working that day then you certainly would have deserved a few beers afterwards, as the units of 9 Battalion did a heck of a lot of work at that job.

I was thinking about the Brothers operating at the WTC on 2-26-93, last week. I played the audio tape of that job over and over. Can't help to think that is was a test that was a sucess. 9-11-01 proved this and it showed the world how easy it can happen to us.

Thoughts and prayers were said for those members who gave all on these two terrible day for the FDNY.

St Patty's day is only 17 days off!!!!

Rest in Peace Brothers!!

Wasn't that the Last Run for a Fireman from Rescue 1 who made that rope rescue on National TV a few years before? I thought I remember reading that he injured his back and reitred shortly after the first WTC attack.
