Hello, I am courious about how Texas Goes about transferring Classes, is it simular to Flordia, in that you have to attend their school and get their certificates to get hired in their state. I was looking at moving to Flordia or Texas and starting from scratch, i am leaning towards texas, due to the cost of living being so high... i would appreciate any input.

Texas accepts IFSAC and DoD courses, so most of your Fire Training (if accredited) should be accepted here. As for EMS certs, the state accepts NR and most out of state certs through reciprocity. I moved here from MA so I know the drill. The job market here is wide open although competitive. San Antonio is looking to hire up to 100 cadets this year to try to keep pace with pending retirements. Houston is more or less always hiring. The cost of living in most areas of TX is extremely reasonable. The average city FD job pays in the $50k range and you can buy a nice house brand new for $150k.
Florida's job market is also open but you will need to do most if not all of your training there first. Paramedic is also very desirable, mandatory in some areas. The cost of living is higher there as well...but still nothing like the northeast. Drop me a PM if you have more specific questions and I'll try to help. -46:)

What type of cirtifications do they look for when hiring in TX? Do they want you to be a certain level of firefighter or do they take people who have no fire experince?
