I reached my one-year anniversary in our auxiliary police unit and finished all of my field training in the cruiser by the required date. I'm getting a lot better on the radio with codes, etc. I'm getting more confident when I direct traffic. I survived OC(pepper)spray training without looking wimpy and learned to use an ASP (extandable baton). I've reduced the time it takes to get all of my gear off and use the bathroom, which in itself is a major accomplishment.

Personally speaking, we finally moved to a different house, which has been great and a long time in coming. Our big goal here is to get rid of all the junk in our storage unit so we don't have to pay rent on it anymore.

Professionally speaking, I've made some changes in the way I teach and hope to make some more major changes in the coming year.

Happy New Year to everyone!

Well lets see:

I finally got the heck out of Massachusetts.

I moved to the South - much better living here.

I was accepted into my top choice Physician Assistant program (What was I thinking?)

Oh yeah, we got out of debt just in time to go back into debt to pay for school. Wait that is not an accomplishment.

Well... I was selected as the "Firefighter of the Year" for my department which was a complete surprise to me. I suppose that qualifies as an accomplishment.

:D Okay--2004: it was a year of "Whoa"-and "WOW" for me. I started out working a 40hr. job and entered EMT training, I pulled over 200 class hours in four months, plus my job, plus raising two teens on my own--Oh, and did I mention, that I cooked for the class every single time( and I had perfect attendance). Immediatly following my national registry testing ( which was a "Whoa, I passed-Whoo-hoo!") I began running with my newly assigned crew. As a volunteer, I am only required to pull 24 hrs. a month--not enough in my opinion to remember squat, So..... I changed jobs ( earing more, working a little less), still getting my kids through highschool, and pulled an average of 150 hrs a month. Since I've been here, I have come in at all hours of the night and day for other shifts to help with the work, or cook up something hot after they've been out all night in 9 degree weather fighting fire somewhere. I have assisted in our departments raising over $2000 dollars in just the month of December for the almost 500 families we fed and provided christmas for. I worked as hard as I could to get into the essentials class, but I lost my concentration( my bad) after a phone call from my father telling me my grandfather had just died was recieved, 10 minutes before I tested- I failed the test, but continue to work hard at the station and on fire scenes to help my brothers with what ever the job may be (or as far as they'll let me:p ) and I am training harder than ever for next January. This was just a rock in the road-not the end of it. In the mean time I will be doing my intermediate training on the EMS side, and every day I get less than 5 hrs. of sleep I drag through to the next day wondering " what am I doing?", but the last year of my life was the best I have ever had--and if nobody else thinks much of it--I am DAMM proud of it!!!:) :D It may not sound like much to you veterans, but for a frilly girl out of no where, I sure have come a long way, and look forward to more and more! I love this department-I respect any person who has served in this noble cause, and I am SOOOOOOO thankful to have my crew, my officers and now all of you to teach me all that I must know to be a better person, a more compassionate EMT, and a stronger firefighter. I hope the last year had many wonderful moments for all of you, and may the next one be rich with accomplishments and those things you cherish most! Be safe, every one of you!!!!! Sassy;)

Everyone on my group went home at the end of their duty tours... unless, of course, they caught an overtime trick!

I will second Captain Gonzo's notion. That is the best accomplishment any of us had.
Personally recieved my Fire Safety Inspector certificate, moved to new place and completed more of my required classes.
Looking forward to seeing everybody going home again this year.
Completing my degree.

My goal for 2005 is to finish the fiction novel I'm writing about a Cleveland firefighter. I have eight chapters. I have to interview lots more houses and a pipers' corps before I'm satisfied that the details are authentic.

I'm also considering taking a course in fire technology at the community college. It's very important to me that the book be not only sympathetic to FF's but technically correct.

I really appreciate being allowed to read the forums on Firehouse.com -- I am learning so much and I am able to absorb a lot of valuable hands-on knowledge without having to ask a lot of questions and bother FF's who are working. When I do go on interviews to the different firehouses, I am able to ask intelligent questions and know what I'm looking at/looking for. Thanks for letting me be a part here, and have a safe '05.

Adam was born fit and strong.

Busiest year ever for our Brigade, and I managed to miss 0 calls, and 0 trainings.

This year. Training focus to enhance what we are doing and why we are doing it at training.

Where the heck do you start? 2004 was good to me in a lot of ways, FD things, Family things, etc. 10th Grandchild added to the Crew, Oldest Grandson promoted to Driver, Oldest granddaughter and second grandson started in VFD (a few more and I'll have my own company) More than suprised and honored to win a major award from the Maryland State Fire Chiefs Association. After 19 years of retirement, went back to fighting Fire for a living. Led the team that brought home a huge Contribution from a business group that ensured that we had enough money to buy a new Engine. Managed a successful election campaign for my wife, who has just (1-3-05) become the 13th person, and the first woman, to serve as President of our VFD, in it's 77 year history. And, 2005 looks very promising..........

Going to Peru to teach (and learn from) the Peruvian Bomberos (firefighters) in a small. very poor shanty town just outside of Lima.
The neat thing was that the night after we finished 4 1/2 days of training in hazmat, auto ex and first aid, they had an mvc with major injuries, entrapment and large diesel spill, and used everything we taught them! What a thrill to know we'd done some good.

After that, we had the opportunity to see the good that World Vision is doing in Peru, and taught fire safety in several schools. 5 from our group of 9 had the opportunity to meet our World Vision sponsored children. That was the best thing that has ever happened to me! I can now say I have family in Peru (outside of my firefighting family that is)

Here is the link to World Vision Canada's reports on our trip.Mississauga Firefighters battle water shortage in Peru (http://www.worldvision.ca/home/about-us/media/news-releases/?C=466&I=1334) and:Firefighters visit their sponsored children (http://www.wvi.org/wvi/archives/lacro/peru.htm)
Our city website wrote a news release on the trip, and we had many people donate to the cause after reading the article:City of Mississauga news release (http://tinyurl.com/3t2kr)

Oh yeah, I adopted a cat, I became a great auntie for the second time, and finally got my bagpipes!:p

Same here, lived to see 2005.

Saw my son celebrate his 2nd birthday and his third christmas. Got to spend an evening in the ER with a back injury so can't say it was uneventful. If anyone asks Lortab is some great stuff!

This year I don't have any accomplishment that I want to make. This way I won't be disappointed if I don't get it.

My biggest personal accomplishment of 2004 was passing the PA EMT-B class.

Some accomplishments for 2005 are graduating high school and working on getting my first job as an EMT-B/Firefighter. Also I hope to start being more active on fourms and talking about things on here.
