Delta Screws Active Military Member Being Deployed
Okay... I don't spend much time RANTING, but this really pissed me off (yes, da Rev just said "pissed").
My wife's 20 y/o cousin is in the Air Force and based in Utah. She got word around Thanksgiving that her unit may be deployed around the new year.
As she was making travel plans in the beginning of December to fly home for Christmas, she called Delta Airline and explained that she wanted to purchase a round trip ticket to Pheonix, but that if she is deployed she would instead drive home (to leave her car at her parents) and only use the return flight - saving the Utah to Arizona ticket for later use. The ticket agent assured her that this would be no problem at all.
A couple of days before leaving the base they were given their orders - they would be going to Iraq on Friday, 12/30 - so she contacted Delta and, she was told that she could not use only half of ticket, and that she would have to cash her ticket in (minus service charge) and purchase a one-way flight back to the base - which was only $10 cheaper than her original round-trip ticket.
Getting nowhere with Delta they cashed in the ticket and contacted Southwest Airlines to see if she could get a cheaper flight. When she explained the situation to Southwest they found a flight for her and told her she was all set.
Asking how much it would cost, she was told, "Southwest will take care of it for you. Thank you for serving our country."
Thank you SOUTHWEST AIRLINES for your commitment to our men and women serving in the military!
HEY Delta: no wonder you're going out of business!!! And the Chrsitmas air travel fiasco... isn't Comair your subsidiary? Figures.
