Is it illeagle in New York to have a Dual LED Blue light with a White Light? Is it against the Motor Vehicle and Traffic Law? Any comments welcome.

Technically, I think yes.
The white might be illegal. I know it is in combination with red (reserved for emergency vehicles). It depends on the exact wording of the state law on whether flashing white in combination with anything else is illegal.
That being said, depending on how things are up in your area, it might not really be that big of a deal. Down on Long Island people got away with a lot worse (my brother used to have a full sized MX7000 with blue and some white).

See the NYS V&T Laws, specifically Article 9, section 375

http://www.nysgtsc.state.ny.us/emer-vt.htm#sec375

My personal opinion & teaching is that white-blue combinations are prohibited.

Long Island is extremely relaxed with some of the light things. At least Nassau County is. The cops there really won't give you too much crap provided you're not running red lights in the front. They'll even let you get away with red in the back.

I was just interested in it. I personally think that all a blue light is good for is parking (sad but true) and getting across a fire line. I was just interested in the Motor Vehicle and Traffic Law. I used to own a blue rotating one but they are pointless.

Thanks for everyones input

not to be technical but the white light may not be the problem but the law says that there is to be only on light. Flashing lights are illegal.

My father is a Sgt. in our Sheriff's Dept. where I am from, so being a volunteer I am VERY familiar with the law regarding blue lights in NY(Been yelled at a few times because I run with a dual rotator beacon on top and 2 grill LEDs and two rear window LEDs). The law states that you are allowed one light that must be visible from 360* around the vehicle. It used to say that the light had to be less than 36 candlepower strong, but to my knowledge they recently took that part off. So just remember to make sure it is visible from all sides of the vehicle.

As for the white, that is DEFINATELY illegal. It is reserved for authorized emergency vehicles.

yea...it is illegal for you to have a dual LED light with white....as a matter of fact i just ordered a blue light from galls and it was supposed to be blu blu but it came as a blu wht and now i have to send it back...the only thing is, i am a Criminal Justice student and in the vehicle and traffic law book it DOES NOT state that it is illegal to have blu and wht, it jus ttalks about only having blu or red and wht if your an officer...but because it doesn't say you can or can't...DON'T...its not worth getting a ticket and having the blue light taken away.....lol....

I guess it must depend where you are when you evaluate the effectiveness of the blue light. I know that most of the time here, people 'give way' to a blue light. It is sort of funny to watch though, cause some people have enough blue lights on their vehicles to show up on a satellite image, and the person with the one bulb blinking light on the dash gets through traffic just as fast. And before you ask, yes, we have more than on traffic light here! :D :D

I believe the white light is designated to the red light and the red light only. How much farther can we let blue light responders go without giving them blue lights.
