Well, I'm from Washington Twp., Ohio (just outside Toledo).
Not technically from Michigan but my dept. runs mutual aid to Monroe County and my full-time job is an EMT at a steel plant in Monroe.

Not really a FF or in training, just a firebuff. I am original from South of Lansing in a the town of Onondaga. Currently I am from Sault Ste Marie about half way in between LSSU and the locks.
Didn't know there were so many from here on this board. Wow.

I am a 2003 LSSU grad. I loved it up there. I hate being back in the city. I am working paid on-call in Macomb County trying to find a full time gig.

Great Thread!
From New Boston, worked POC for Huron Twp. and Part Time at Riverview. Just moved to Ann Arbor and hired in at Ann Arbor Township but have not started there yet because my first child is expected this month and I plan on testing with Pittsfield Twp sometime this spring. I really want to work at Pittsfield, so I am holding off starting with Ann Arbor Twp.
Nice to meet you all,
KC

I'm currently living in Madison Heights, in training at Oakland Fire Academy. I'm thinking about applying for a reserve position in Ecourse. I'm Emt-b and will be starting my paramedic in the fall.

prymtym-
So you're publicly admitting that you're holding off on starting at AATFD until you hear from another agency? That's kind of mean. I'm sure they have other people who'd love to work there if you don't.
This is a public forum, and quite a well known one at that- how do you know Ann Arbor Township's Chief, or friends of his, don't watch this board?

Ack8236,
I used to work for Northville and my brother worked for Northville Twp. When did you work for them? Email me, I would like to chat with you. Hell..I may even know who you are.

prymtym,
I actually know Ann Arbor Twp. Chief very well. I dont think I am gonna run back and tell him what you said. Just wanted you to know that many people read these forums. May wanna watch how much information you give on here. I know if it were my department, I would not be too happy to hear that your holding out on my department for another, especially when the department your waiting on is right next door to mine. I do know that ALL the Chiefs in Washtenaw County are very close and talk very much among each other. Good luck to you and I hope you get on the department you want.

Thanks for all the advice about "holding off". You guys are right, the chief of AATFD is a great guy. I told him I would not be starting anytime real soon as I have to take and pass the agility test at Schoolcraft. Probably not until May. I also told the chief during my interview that I would be testing at Pittsfield. He asked which department I would go with if offered both and I was honest and said that I'd like to work for both, but if that is not possible that I'd have to cross that bridge when and if I come to it. That is part of the reason that the chief is a good guy, he was very understanding.
I have my FF II and Haz mat ops right now. I am attending EMT school in May or August and I am paying for that myself. AATFD will not be paying for any license for me to be able to respond to calls. I would not let the department pay for any certifications they would not recieve the benefit of. With some hand me down gear, it would cost relatively little for them to put me on as a member.
I actually live closer to Pittsfield's firehouses than AATFD's. Chief Ericson was actually the person who told me that, the first time I spoke to him. I had just moved to the area and he was going over an area map with me.
Thank you for your concern, but I assure you that there is no deception going on and I have discussed this matter right up-front with the chief the first time we spoke.
Testing at Pittsfield is only ONE reason I am holding off on starting anywhere. Like I said, my first child is expected in less than two weeks and my wife is off of work for about 12 weeks. I have been working as much OT as I can to make up the income. I just don't have the time to start anything until I can get back to my regular work schedule.
I would not post anything on a public internet forum that I was trying to keep a secret. I'm sure alot of local guys read these forums. If someone told Chief Ericson anything about my posts, they wouldn't be telling him anything that I haven't already.
Thanks,
KC

AATFD uses the CWW tests? Good to know. I didn't see them listed on the test registration form.

prymtym,
Sounds like you did the right thing. Like I said in my last post, I know Chief Ericson pretty well. He does almost all of our training at my department. Everything you said about him sounds just like him. He is a great guy and would only want the best for you. Good luck to you wherever you end up. You sound like the type we are looking for in this profession. Best of wishes on your new arrival. Maybe one day we will see each othe on a fire scene.

Central Michigan (Clare area), although not accepted fully to my department yet, I find out for sure on the 25th. The department accepted me but they have to run it by the township board and no one has even been denied once the FD accepts them, but I still ahve my fingers crossed :)
