Well the first baby steps to becoming a St John's First Aid Instructor have been taken. Day One of Five has been completed without incident.

Of course the real stuff starts tomorrow, with my first lecture at 1045, untill 1200. Which will also be Lecture One of Five between Tues and Fri.

Should be fun, I look forward to the journey with trepidation and excitment.

Well day Two has come and gone.... and there are a lot of "Instructor Shreddies" in the room. LOL But that means there is much to improve upon and we will.

But according to our instructor, there is Hope yet....... (not sure where she's hiding... but he says She's there ) ;)

Well Day Four has come and passed. I did two presentations this day, and my day's end score was a 6.6 out of a possible 10 (which was considered "very good").

Tomorrow is the final assessment and final presentation - Infant Resuscitation, with choking and CPR. Normally this would be two separate classes, but for the purposes of "training" they have been combined.

Already to date we have completed over four hours of CPR in one of its many facets... infant, child or adult, with a few "chokings" thrown in as well. I have always been very strong in CPR technique, but I know now beyond a doubt that I would be able to perform it in my sleep! :D

Well time to get back to preparing my final presentation.... I have to be back in the classroom and ready to "present" by 0700.................

Wish me Luck!

First of all, I will say that my prophecy came true... I am now truly CPR'd to death! I woke up some bit earlier than the alarm this morning, becuase YES, I was dreaming of performing CPR. Sadly though, I do not remember who "She" was. :(

As for the prophecy of others: YES, I PASSED, with a final assessment of 8.5 out of a possible 10, which gave me a grading that requires I co-team teach for two courses, with a possibility to be monitored and certified on the third. Or I can with hold my monitoring until such time as I feel confident to be.

So that is the next phase of our certification: to co-team teach for the specified number of classes, after which we will be monitored and assessed as "Certified" or be required to go through the entire training process start to finish, which would include re-doing this past week. After that we have to attain a minimum of 3 courses per year, for the next 2 years to maintain our competency. Sometime during the third year we will again be monitored and on passing that, we will then be granted full licence to go solo as instructors.

I guess that means there is still a long way to go, but according to our instructor the "hard part" is done with. WWWOOOHHHOOOO :D:D:D:D

Congrats! My grandfather was a member of St Johns in the UK before joining the RAMC during WWI. Talk about an organization with some history! :)

TC, interesting that you should mention History. During our briefings with our Instructor, he talked about how or when changes to the St John's procedures for first aid are done. Once it clears the national and international boards, it then goes to the Knights Templar for their final approval. The Templars have been around since the Crusades - NOW THAT'S HISTORY! :D

I am once again committing a "First" in my family. First to join the peacetime Military, first to become a firefighter of any type (volly or paid) and first in the Brigade now. I have two young sons (age 3 and 5) who currently live with their Mother. I wonder which track they will follow... or will they make their own "Firsts" in the family too?
