Am I the only one who is seeing an increase in the number of pop up ads at this website?
The irony in my case is that I just went to a Spy Sweeper program and Google Pop Up Blocker and I seem to be getting MORE pop ups than ever before.
What have I done?

CR....I don't get any pop-ups on this site. Maybe you installed the software "ads" backwards?;)

Your system probably has some nasty worms / garbage in it.

recommend you visit Enigma (http://www.enigmasoftwaregroup.com/) and download SpyHunter.

Run it through your system, then pay a wee small fee to have the full version.

Payment gets a Pop_Up blocker that works damn fine.

PS I use this personally on my business machines.

PSS. U R gona lik it (just doin Txt tlk so I can unastan al d yng flk ona forum)

I'll second the nomination of that program. Works well / does it's job...

These are non-viral Trojans in your system. Run these two programs and you will be all cleaned up. Be sure to update the programs before you run them as new Trojans appear every day.

Run SpyBot first and Ad Aware second.

Download SpyBot at: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html

Download Ad Aware at: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/#free

E229LT is on the right track. Also consider running Mozilla instead of IE if possible. It's not bulletproof, but it presents a much smaller target. It also has built in popup blocking.

ditto what the Lt said. contrary to popular belief, most pop ups aren't due to the websites themselves, but rather the user unknowingly having spyware on their machine. run ad-aware and/or spybot, and it should get rid of most of the popups.

Preferable over Microshaft explorer. Less security holes, just download the file to your PC then install it. I remember getting an error trying to install it from the website.

Good call with the ad ware, sometime you need to run it two or three times to get all the dirties out. Make sure no other app is running as well. I recommend running them each time you system boots, Boot'em up, fire up the app and go get some coffee.

You definately have Spyware on your computer.

But you should also use Opera or Firefox (best Mozilla browser IMO). They both have built-in pop-up protection.

One more vote for spyware as the cause.

Hopefully, it is a tame one that Spybot, Ad-Aware, or some of the other system cleanup tools will remove. I'll add one more suggestion: If you're running Win XP or 2000, start in safe mode. Some of these guys are downright nasty and can't be easily killed once their parent process starts.

Another trick-of-the-trade is to use a hosts file to misdirect the popups --

This guy is legitimate with a great blocking hosts file. Most people have a very plain jane hosts file, but I'd copy your existing one as like hosts.bak before putting in Barry's hosts file.

FOLKS:

THERE ARE **NO** POP UP ADS ON FIREHOUSE.com

There are occasionally flash ads that appear in the actual page itself...but there are NO pop ups, pop unders, etc.

If you see pop-up ads on Firehouse.com, its because you have some program hijacking your browser. Try to download hijackthis or adaware or install the Google tool bar and block pop ups.

If you STILl get them it means some adware is defenitely installed. Try going to uninstall programs and see if anything with 'search' or unusual is there.

Thanks

Just as long as you know its NOT Firehouse.com

You can also try AdAware.
