You can't be too careful with those damn
soda drinkers, we all know how disruptive
they can be.

Damn shame the ACLU can't get that worked up when an employer tells an employee what they can and can't do on their own time.

an annual financial meeting for the firedistrict would fall under sun shine laws - the chief is being a little too autocratic here

A normal department business meeting does not

He's got to be able to know the difference

And sometimes, it isn't the employer that tells the employee what they can and can't do on their own time, it is the union. Maybe the ACLU should go after the union.

Is this a fire company or a fire department?

First of all, as a proud member of the IAFF I say to the ACLU Bring it On!! you bed-wetting, cry-baby liberals.

Second, while I do not advocate telling brothers what they can, or can't do off-duty, I would suggest that everyone stepping into a Union job (fire or otherwise) read the by-laws of that organization before swearing an oath to it. If YOU decide to become an IAFF member, all that is asked is that you follow the by-laws of the International. It IS that simple. If you don't agree with the by-laws, THEN DON'T BECOME A MEMBER.

If the union is going to say that I can't be on any other department, volunteer or paid, I am not going to be a part of that union.

...in total agreement.

If you don't believe in what the Union bylaws read, don't join. If you are already a member, follow the by-laws until you can get Union body to change them.

Personally, I don't really care if a Union brother volunteers for some other department. What pisses me off is the griping of those who agreed to join, but then make a stink about the fairness of the rules.

Or others, like yourself, who should be having words with those volunteer firefighters who knowingly join an organization that bars volunteering for a fire department.

Remember, nobody is twisting their arms to do either.

The only career firefighting I will do is out west, fighting wildfires. And that is a max of 6 months a year, unless I get a job full time, but that won't be for a little while.

I would pass on the ACLU helping our brothers here in the DC Area.

For everything they do that seems ok to us closer to the right, they do 10 stupid things that pander the left. "Without A CLUe"

die Schnecke du ACLU!

Hey Chris, did you hear that the Republican Party built an Airplane?? Yup, sure did. Couldn't get it off the ground though. Seems as though it didn't have a Left Wing............... And while I got your attention, you get to the festivities in Branchville next month, find me in the crowd, I'll buy you a cold one.... Back to the Subject at hand. Looks like I derailed a thread, and my apoligies to CB. AND, Firegod, I agree with your views as you have stated them. A simple, straightforward, point, without the hype and rhetoric. I'd vote for you for General President in a heartbeat. CB, anything new in this, like Mruk getting a lot of flak??
