COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A compartment door swung open on a fire truck and damaged at least 11 cars on its way to a fire, NewsChannel 4 reported.
The engine was responding to a fire in the area of Fourth Street and Morrill Avenue at about 3 a.m. Authorities said the truck was a replacement truck for an engine that was being serviced.
A faulty latch apparently gave way on the compartment door, causing it to swing open. Firefighters reportedly did not hear the door banging the vehicles because of the sound of the engine's siren.
NewsChannel 4 reported that as many as seven cars had mirrors torn off and windows damaged. Fire Department officials said 11 cars were damaged.
Authorities said anyone with a damaged car should call the city at (614) 645-8308.
