A tractor trailer spun out on ice and broke through a single row jery barrier median on 95 a few years ago. It was dark and there were no street lights. The lights went out on the trailer section that was protruding into the other side of the interstate. A suburban full of Yale college kids plowed right into it at highway speed. Several were ejected, others were just pinned in the mangled metal. I forget how many of the kids died but it was several. It was real nighmare for everyone involved.

But anyway, you might notice that new highway construction projects on 95 always involve parallel concrete barriers with gravel in between and capped with concrete. They are also sunk into the ground, not just resting on the pavement. You'd need a tank to get through that.

Unfortunately, it takes a high profile case of people dying to get the money spent on these improvements.
