This state is taking a hard beating for only being in the
first part of May. Northern CA is sending "strike teams"
down to So. Cal for vegetation fires.

After the worst season ever last fall, we are still losing
structures because people wont clear the brush (defensable
space) from around their homes.

For some of you who came to our aid last year, THANKS...
and see you real soon.

PS- for those of you who want shirts again, I am sure
they will be out there or on eBay.

Here are some pics from Yahoo...Bou

Already these fires in the Bay Area in the last 2 days:

3 Alarm in San Jose - One House burnt down

35 Acre in Marin County

and at 0230 Hours LAST NIGHT

3 Alarm Fire in the Oakland Hills with an additional 4 alarms worth of equipment working from the Contra Costa County side of the fire.

AND ITS NOT EVEN WILDLAND SEASON YET!!!!!!!!!

I really hate wildland fires...no matter how you look at it, its just really dangerous, glorifed yard work!!

7 Alarms in oakland Hills .. well that ain't a good thing. I remeber driving thru there about 2 weeks after the fire in '91 (?) and could not beleive what i saw ... sounds like it may be happeneing again in a number of places out there again this year.
Stay Safe brothers.

The reasons I put up this thread was-

- Shocked that this is happening so soon.

- We may see some of you out here when the poop
hits the fan.

What really sucks...People STILL wont remove the
vegetation (defensible space) from around their
homes.

Oh well...

Bou,

It's just like the Darwinian awards. If these folks were smart a lot of folks here would be out of a job. My big gripe is low interest loans etc. for folks who bear a great deal of responsibility for the fix they're in. Sorry, no money for a new brush engine, we gave it to Joe to build a new house.

:D

If you consider National Forsest and such a yard...

Thats way to much to mow...Clear cutting prevents forrestfires.

I wonder if lawn boy is going to start making brush trucks?

Torro Interface Engines?

LOL, sorry, the yard work comment got me giggling.

It is sort of funny except if this "yard work" is neglected it can be the end of hundreds if not thousands of homes and God Forbid lives.

No "Honey, I will mow the lawn after the game." on this one.

Must be El Nino' or El Tomato' or sumpthin. Here in the Mid-Atlantic, my Type Six hasn't been to a decent fire yet. We've been told that all Crews that go West once in a "Normal" year, will be going twice this year. Long Term forcasts look for a return to Dry weather here AND drought conditions may set in again.

Hate to say it...but...

Has anyone in California ever heard of controlled burning?

1219,

Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions. Their's is a different world. For example, down here in the southeast, a single day with 20-30% relative humidity is rare. Those guys regularly see weeks and sometimes months of lower. Anything and everything burns when it gets that dry.
