Is anyone familiar w/this test? I live in Texas and am flying
out to Colorado to take this test in August. Is it worth my
time/money to do. I would REALLY like to work for a dept. in
Colo. & think this is my best bet. I am IFSAC cert. FF1,FF2,
HAZMAT Ops. & Awe..I am also N.R. E.M.T.-B. Is all of this
going to be enough to get a job there? Thanks in advance for
any info on the matter.

i do not havea answer to your post, but i have a question for you. i am from chicago and i also am going to colorado. i currently am in emt-b classes, but im going to miss my state test so that i can work my summer job as a whitewater rafting guide. my question is for the NREMT test, did you have to be state certified before you took the test or no? thanks! eugene martin

Answers to both questions:
1. The DRCOG is a hit and miss test. The actual test is a complete load of crap and really doesn't relate to firefighting at all. It's all psychological questions. If you're really interested in working here, you'll need your NREMT-B, but most good departments don't care that you have fire I or II. You should check out these websites also:
www.poudre-fire.org (Fort Collins)
www.southmetro.org (South Metro Denver)
www.westmetrofire.org (West Metro Denver)
www.springsgov.com (go to departments, fire, Colorado Springs)
South Met will be hiring a lot if they pass their bond issue. It would be worth it to fly out to take the CPAT if they pass the bond issue and you don't have a current CPAT.
2. Check out www.nremt.org You have to take the NREMT test within 2 years of your initial course offering and skills exam. Most states will issue you a state cert if you have a NREMT.

Thanks Eric. I will check those sites out. I don't want to spend the
time/money if it's not worth it. Thank you for your time. Do you work
@ one of these dept.'s?
