Hey guys...

I am working on an English paper, and could use some input. I'm really not quite sure where exactly my paper is going yet, only that I want it to be on a topic concerning the fire service.

I was thinking about posing the question of wheter or not fire is an act of God, or caused by human carelessness, but haven't found much opinion supporting the former.

So what do you think?? Act of God or human carelessness, apathy, and ignorance? Also, if anyone has any better ideas for debatable hot topics concerning the fire service...

Thanks.

Fires are generally caused by three things MEN,WOMEN and CHILDREN. Save for the lightning strike, fires are usually caused by humans. Arson, careless smoking, poor housekeeping, children playing with matches and lighters are just some of the HUMAN factors that cause fires. Maybe you could find a good debate topic when you measure up prevention vs. suppression?

I would suggest getting in touch with more current topics. Like-

- Post 9/11- What has really changed in the FD?

- Todays budget woes, what is being done or changed?

- Merging roles in the FD.

- Incresing or Decresing personnel aka "manpower" on apparatus.

And a big one- Consolidation. A lot of FDs in California are hurting for funds, but more over finding a that consolidating (merging) their agencies is a more cost effective and better for service delivery. Here is a link that might help-

There is no god. Fire is a product of nature. Fire was around before man and the gods man created and fire will be here after we are gone from this world.

I have a paper I did in college - I think it was on sprinkler systems and why buildings should have them. Interested ? verdoyff@yahoo.com
