(Polson-AP) -- A volunteer firefighter from Pablo is accused of
stealing more than 25- thousand dollars in gasoline.
According to documents filed in District Court at Polson,
23-year-old Clinton Morgan had access to the Ronan-Pablo Fire
Department fuel cards, as a member of the volunteer department.
He's accused of using the cards to fill-up his own and his
friends' vehicles with fuel.
One of the friends told investigators that Morgan filled the
friend's vehicle several times, and that it seemed like a
"never-ending supply of gas."
Investigators say Morgan also used a similar gas card, which he
took from his father's wallet without his father's knowledge. The
father is an employee of the Ronan City Maintenance Department.
Court records indicate the combined total between the two cards
is 25-thousand-568 dollars.
Morgan's arraignment is set for April 7th in District Court at
Polson.

That’s a heck of a lot of gas. I’m surprised someone didn’t catch on sooner.

Not being there, I don't know anything about this situation, EXCEPT, at $2.00/gal, that's still 3 Tractor-trailer Tanker loads. That's one hell of a lot of gas...............

At least he got caught! A just retired Police Major in my city has been doing this for years. We would watch with amusement from the bunkroom windows as he filled 6, 5 gallon containers full 2-3 times a week. And he had been doing this for 15 to 20 years! People knew but turned a blind eye to it.

If you watched this going on, why didnt you do something about it?

This is why we have weekly truck checks, fueling logs and gas card logs. Between all three we can track every gallon just about. You log it when you fill it. And log how the tank level when you park it everytime. Also you have to log how many gallons you put in it when you did fill it. Just logs, paperwork, cards and checks keeps tabs on it all.
