Whats the story behind the "yellow submarine" picture?

That looks familiar...

Was at a tobaggon slide w/ my grandparents in Eagles Mere, PA about five or six years ago...

They had this little willies jeep fire truck out on the ice towing the sleds back up. One minute it was there, the next the fire whistle was blowing; and the jeep was gone. I figured it went to a call, but judging by the fuss in the middle of the lake, I figured they drove too far out. Turns out they backed onto thin ice, and went for a polar bear ride. :p

It's not really my story to tell, but it involved a river rescue, an icy boat ramp, and fast moving water. :D

Well it is my story and after we found out the driver of the squad made it out safely it turned out to be a very very funny story!!!:D

Here is the story....

Once upon a time, early last spring we at the nameless fire dept. got a report of someone in the water. We launched the boat in the river and after several hours of searching we found nothing. Since the report seemed credible we decided to go out the next morning to continue the search. Thats when the fun began.

As someone (NFD159), so elloquently (sp) put it, it did involve a river rescue, an icy boat ramp, and fast moving water. As we were launching the boat into the river again me and another firefighter were in the boat while the squad was being backed by another firefighter. The driver set the brake and was getting out to assist with unhooking the boat when it bagan to slide into the water. He jumped back into the seat to hit the brakes and make sure the parking brake was set. By that time it was to late to bail out. The truck was underwater and going downriver. Luckily, the trailer stayed connected to the boat and hung up on the bottom of the river which kept us from going farther downstream.

I was fortunate enough to get the motor started while my partner got the boat unhooked from the trailer. By the time we were able to make it around to the front of the truck to check on the driver he was out of the truck and sprawled on the front of the truck like Spiderman. He was able to crawl into the boat but dropped his radio in the process. His only problem was that he didn't zip up the back of his dry suit, brrrrrrrr. Once we took a deep breath the laughter began and continued for several minutes.

It turns out that there was nobody in the water. The truck was fixed and our Squad 2 is now the Yellow Submarine.

More pictures to come......
