Anyone a member of the Northwestern Ohio Volunteer Firefighters Association?
My department is the southeasternmost member of the association
We had belonged for years, but until about 4 years ago, no one from our department attended the SCHOOL, held annually at Bowling Green University during their spring break. (spring break, my ass, it always snows during school :D)
anyone going to the School this year?

Were members also. We usually send several people and sometimes provide a truck. I never seem to have time to go to the school but usually always go to the convention.

We're one of several Washington Township members. I will be at BG this year both days and I have gone every year since 2000. They really have some great classes/instructors and you can't beat the price!
Jamie Morelock from Fremont has a new class this year called Back to Basics Fireground Operations that should be really good. He's a great instructor.
Other classes that I have taken past years were RIT with Al Woo (of another WTFD), SCBA/Search & Rescue and the Flashover Trailer (every firefighter should go through one of these at least once)
Here's this year's classes: http://www.novfa.org/classes.htm

I might see some of you at the NOVFA school the 13th or 14th!
I'll probably check out "whats new in the fire service"

730, myself and some others were discussing the NOVFA convention this morning and we were wondering why it's always way out in BFE someplace.
We don't have any room in the little township to ever have it here.
Maybe Rossford or Northwood (or both) should host it next year!
I know there's a big hotel in Rossford that could use the business.
I'm sure that members of my department would help out.
What'cha think guys? :D ;)

If we ever hosted it, there'd be a lot of grumbling about the drive time
We are the Southeasternmost member - about 2 hours 15 mins southeast of Bowling Green, when we take the 41 Jimmy pumper to convention we always win furthest driven prize.
On the other hand, we have several state parks or private campgrounds nearby to hold it

Actually, Moe, this has been discussed many times by us. It is a lot of work. Some of the "oldtimers" who were on when we hosted it back in '78 are worried about not having enough people to do the work. It is something that takes a lot of hours over a year to put together. Apparently back in '78 there almost WASN'T a convention because of some problems getting everything taken care of. We actually have talked about maybe doing a joint convention with Rossford. Maybe if we get our new station we will try to do the 2008 convention (30th Anniversary since our 1st time). That just means less fun for us!

I remember the '78 convention, my family lived in Oregon then.
I dragged my dad to Great Eastern's parking lot to take pictures of the trucks in the parade.
After 8 hours and probably a couple hundred rigs, he had to drag me away.
Yes, even at 10 years old I was a buff (or as 730 will undoubtedlly post a WHACKER) :D
And boy, does that comment about the 30th anniversary of the 78 convention make me feel old LOL

I've been told I've been to quite a few, and seen pictures of me at several, but for some reason I can't remember too much, other than waking up once a year on Saturday in the back of my car in some strange field in some small town.:D :D

I haven't been to one for a long while. I am always afraid that I will end up in the same boat as 159. Maybe I'll venture out this year to see the "contest"

Unfortunately, I used the last of my vacation days last week to help with SFS at Rossford. Not everyone can be a highly paid county government employee with great benefits :p

Well, that may have been a possibility if I was working with the other EMT that weekend but since I'm relieving 37chief2 that weekend and he reads these forums, that's out too.
Hi Les :D
I guess you Northwood guys will just have to come to the WTFD Summerfest on June 26th.
