I'm fairly new to the Chat Room and noticed that it is suddenly closed to "basic" members - now only open to paid members.

In the few times I've been online there, the tone has been very different. I've had great conversations with people about tough incidents, talked with people who really needed to touch base with others after a code, etc. Other times, it really has been a party - fine with me as long as it's civil, etc. Once I got in and got right out - it was almost porn. What has bothered me is that it seems like a lot of kids were on and a couple of the adults (?) didn't seem to give a damn.

I don't know if suddenly shutting the room or changing requirements for getting in is the answer. Maybe more frequent warnings or guidelines announcements for appropriate content is the way to go.

In any case, since the change, I went in a couple of times and NO ONE was there. Another time, just one other person. I don't think the current situation is working - it is unfortunate that folks who really want to talk with others about the work and related topics, or decompress after work now don't have this live forum.

Anybody else have an opinion on this?

Like the rest of this site, the Chat area is OWNED by Firehouse.com.

They set the rules because they OWN it.

If they see this as a way to stop the shyte that was going on over there, then that is there perogative.

There is one MERGED thread here about the chat, please stop making more.

Hey, sorry folks.

I'm kinda new to the website (and web-communication) and wasn't familiar with "thread protocol." I'll abandon this thread and respond to the others if I have more to say on the topic.

While I'm here, though, I'll stick in my 2 cents about "ownership" of the website - when people pay members fees, that includes them in an aspect of ownership, doesn't it?

I'm glad to see that the web organizers respond to the discussions.

Be safe - take care, all.

NOOOOO.

Payment gets you extra services and options to a non paying person.
