George I received a brochure on the Bio-Seek from Smiths Detection. I was wondering if you are familiar with it. I thought that since it is apparently a new product, and is manufactured in NJ, you may have had a chance to play with one.

I would appreciate feedback from anyone who has experience with it.

Note to WT: I realize the Haz-Mat forum would be more appropriate, but I knew I could reach George here.

Give me a clue as to what it is.

All I know is I've never heard of it and we don't have one.

It is a biological agent detector manufactured by the company that makes the APD2000. More information is available here if the link works.

I have no knowledge of it, but I'll ask the other guys.

We each are issued an APD 2000 and we have had no problems.

I'll let you know.

Duffman,

I have never heard of it or seen it...I like the APD2000. I'll ask our Chief HAZMAT Guru and see what he says.

We too, have an APD2000. I have requested additional info from the manufacturer.

I know duffman was looking for information and I have no problem with that. We also use the APD2000. However, the reply before mine seems to be a violation of the TOS that so many of us have been "slapped on the hand for." While the question duff is asking may be getting answered this seems to me to be a clear promo for the company and the equipment...

Sorry duff.... but what's right for one is right for all.

Gentleman,

Saw your questions on the Bio-Seeq. I am also a volunteer fireman in Boonton, NJ but also work for Smiths. The Bio-Seeq is a PCR based detector, similar to what is used when samples are sent in to a lab for analysis. Accuracy far greater than the hand held assay or ticket reader systems used today. If you have any other questions or want to have a demonstration of the system I am more than happy to put you in touch with the right person for your area. The system was based on a prototype detector developed at Lawrence Livermoore National Labs.

You can get me at michael.hurley@smithsdetection .com or via phone at 973 794 0076

Thanks for helping me out here, Mike. Must be the influence of the excellent fire chief you have there in Boonton. What is his name again?:D
