Good evening all, I am a Lt. in small suburb of Chicago, IL. We recieved a grant for new SCBA. I am currently looking at Drager, Scott, and MSA. What I really would like to know is if anyone reading this has recently switched to one of these brands from another. Any information would be helpful. I am in charge of the committee and the departments SCBA program. I would just like to have enough info from current users to make the "right" choice.

Thank you

I believe McHenry just changed to Draeger. I know Hoffman Estates just changed to Draeger and Des Plaines has been with Draeger over fifteen years. Most departments in Northern Illinois use MSA. You will have to make your own choice as what might be the selling point for one department might be what turns another department away

We like you are replacing our old packs(MSA Ultralite Belt mounted regulators)they worked fine since bought new about 15 years ago.

My department just went through evails of MSA, Drager, Scott (AP50 and NxG2), ISI and Cairns Air. ISI and Scott made it to the final cut. With the option we wanted these 2 seemed to be the best fit for our department. We decided to go with ISI because of assurance from ISI and our rep that any and all troubles would be repaired immediatly. We would have gone with the NxG2 had they been about $1000 dollars cheaper. Keep in mind the Dragers and MSA's were good, but our guys just didn't like the fit and way the voice amp, radio and hud attached.

My best advice is to get them in and try them in simulators.

Hey hi ya doin' I am also from the burbs of Chicago:p. Anyways I know this sounds wierd coming from an Explorer. With the success we have had at Geneva FD with SCOTT, that would be the best choice. My buddy who works with the St.Charles Fire Dept. told me that they were looking into getting new SCBA's and they had tested Drager,MSA,Survivair, and SCOTT. From what I hear from my buddy, I believe they went back with SCOTT. He told me that Drager is too big and bulky and isn't easy to carry around. As for the survivair he disliked the mask design and the design overall. For MSA and SCOTT he loved them. My buddy really liked the new MSA model (Vulcan) Harness with the (Stealth) Cylinders and the (FireHawk MMR) Regulator and the (MMR Xtreme) Mask. His overall choice was the Scott Fifty pack with the 45 minute slim bottles. The way I see it is that MSA is almost as good at SCOTT.Not only that they are cheaper too.

tonymontana...

I just have to ask this question since you have posted multiple places about this Scott escape mask...Are you a Scott rep, salesperson, dealer, manufacturers rep, fire equipment dealer that sells Scott? The reason I ask is you seem pretty interested in having people look at this aprticular piece of equipment.

I wouldn't be too surprised if the WT is wondering the same thing...

The reason I asked him that question is he has posted multiple places telling people to look at the Scott escape mask.

I too am a Scott fan and no I am not a sales rep or affiliated with Scott in any way.
