I am doing some research on the MINIMUM requirement for a brand new firefighter to be able to begin structural firefighting. I want to know what your state laws requires for training. I also would like to know what the MINIMUM reqirement is to be a fire officer in your state.

In MI the bare minumum is 120 hours for Firefighter 1. I believe that is within the first year of service. Some departments such as ours requires another 120 hours which equals Firefighter II trianing within 2 years of joining for Firefighters.
MI also has a 16 week Fire Officer program which is Fire Officer I. I am not sure if it is required however I would not want to be a Officer without having it. I will look and see if I can find a weblink for you on the requirements that will be more in depth than what I gave you. It will probably be the Firefighters Training Council or something like that but I will investigate and see what I can get you.
