I APLOGIZE!

That's right, yours Truly is Apologizing for 90%of the Canadian Bashing I did before. I just got back from a 3 day excursion to Ontario and Had a blast! Visited Niagara Falls, Missisagua, Hamilton and Toronto. I have never seen a city cleaner than Toronto and the Firefighters there were Awesome.

So to the Firefighters of Toronto and Niagara Falls, a big thanks for the Hospitality.

Notice I say 90% of the Canadian Bashing....the 10% that is still there stems from the price of gas, the price of Smokes, the price of a beer and the fact that after listening to some Canadians bash Americans For Flag-Flying and Patriotism, There seemed to be a Canadian Flag flying from every orifice of Ontario. But none the less,it was a beautiful ride on the QEW from Niagara to Toronto. I am planning on going back again..Montreal Maybe?????:D

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself Tiller and hope you waved on your way by. As for Montreal.....NOOOOOOOOOOOO don't do it!!!!!!! We'd like you to keep you warm fuzzy feelings for Canada. :D Seriously, Montreal/Quebec is beautiful as well, just don't think the population is representative of the rest of the Country. As for the cost of a beer.....what do you expect when you drink "real" beer :p

Lewiston,

We were going to head up that way when we were trying to find a less traffic-clogged route back into the USA, but after the 4 hour walk around Toronto and the Drive back on the QEW, we decided to makeour way back to the Hotel for some much needed sleep!

Actually, isn't Lewiston north of Niagara? We came in from Buffalo Via I290.

Funny thing LadyCapn, when in one of the Stations in Ontario we got on the Subject of the French and their Feelings toward America. One of the Firefighters said "Heck, we don't even like French Canadians!" He seemed like he was joking, but it did cut alot of tension in the conversation...LOL.

And I will give it to the people of Ontario, they are definately Maple Leaf fans to the death! .....:D (Go Red Wings)

Tiller,
If you crossed the Lewiston Queenston Bridge into or out of canada, you were not too far at all from my Station. I290 heads around the city, Maybe you took the Peace Bridge? Next time avoid the whole hassle and cross the Rainbow bridge in Niagara falls, after all noone goes to Niagara Falls anymore!

We came up from Erie on I90 to I290 all the way around Buffalo (To avoid all the tolls) and took I190 to Rt. 62 to the Rainbow Bridge into Canada. The Rainbow Bridge ran us right onto the QEW. We were looking to the Whirlpool Bridge but it is Closed until Spring.

I did not even realize that the falls are facing Canada. It seems like you have to go to a certain spot to see them from the US. From Canada, you can see them from almost any Vantage point in the City of Niagara Falls. I guess the Niagara Falls scene in "Superman II" was not that accurate. :D

I was able to obtain patches from Fire Departments on Both Sides, so that will make a neat page in the Trip book. We are planning on going back maybe in the Summer or Late Spring. I will look you up when I come back. Also, are any of the Vollie Stations up there staffed?????

Is Lewiston a Volunteer House?

Only a little bit. ;) The Ontario/Quebec rivalry has been going on since they were known as Upper and Lower Canada.

To further muddy it up, up here, even the french hate France. :D

Yep, the bulk of the falls faces Canada. And to make it worse they did a better job of setting up their tourist area. I am sorry you had to endure the loveliness we call Pine Avenue. Having grown up here I dont really appreciate the wonder of the falls.
No, none of the volunteer stations around here are staffed that I know of. Many of them do not get the call volume to warrant it.
Lewiston has 4 volunteer companies, mine is one of them. The closest Paid FD is the City of NF, and it seems they are fighting really hard to keep it that way.
Drop me an email the next time you head up this way. I will show you around. Take you to some of the lesser known tourist areas.
