For millions of women, one of the tell-tale signs of menopause comes at night. Night sweats leave many women wringing wet and sleepless.
Those are the very symptoms that prompted a California woman to design a new line of sleepwear.
"I said, 'I'm getting hot flashes. I'm sick of waking up at night. What do you think about using athletic wear to make sleepwear?'" said Beverly Beck Ellman, Coolzs' co-creator.
Ellman's doctor friend thought it was a great idea. So they teamed up and created Coolzs, the first sleepwear designed to tackle night sweats for menopausal women.
"You wake up and have a hot flash and the fabric dries so fast you don't have to wake up and change your shirt, you go right back to sleep," Ellman said. "We're getting a response from all kinds of people in humid climates -- women who are pregnant, women who just get hot at night."
Audrey O'Neill, a young mother and breast cancer survivor, tried Coolzs after getting night sweats and hot flashes following breast cancer treatment.
"I was really surprised at what chemo had done to me and how it put my body into a different temperature," O'Neill said.
Unable to take hormone therapy, she said Coolzs bedtime wear made living with hot flashes bearable, even for her husband.
"He definitely likes these over the big cotton logo tee shirts I would wear throughout the night," O'Neill said.
"It's very sexy -- sexy and pretty as we age," Ellman said.
