It's a short bus, so it's yellow :D We went to Yellow apparatus in 1968. Back when I was still getting paid to drive the yellow apparatus, my wife owned a School Bus Fleet. (school transportation is by contractors here) and the standing joke was both of us had the same job. We rode around all day in a big yellow truck with blinking red lights and a bunch of kids in the back. :p Many people have asked, "Why Yellow?" Answer "Who else has Yellow?" "Uh......... Nobody within 50 miles." "Exactly." Stay Safe....

Hey ya know I always wonder about people who can identify the colour codes for school buses on sight. :D Ya gotta kinda think maybe they know more than they let on. ;)

However, on the topic of "yellow" paint on fire apparatus, its been the general consensus of Malahat FD that yellow or white painted fire apparatus rather than red, just means that the vehicle wasn't "done yet" before being put into service. I think it needed a few extra hours in the paint shop bay to "cook" a little longer. eheheehehe

I'll try "splainin'" it...

The easiest way...

1) Have the picture you want to post on your computer.
2) Know where it is... LOL :p
3) assuming you have already hit the reply button.. look under the text box that you type the message in.
4) Find the Attach File (it's just below "options" which is under the smilies) and click the Browse button...
5) A box will pop up that says "choose file", these are the files ON YOUR PUTER... use the "look in" drop down box to find where you have the pic stored on your puter.. IE: my docs etc...
6) click the "open" button on the lower right hand side once you have located and highlited the pic you want...
7) Now that you have done that... click the "submit reply" like you normally would after completing your post.

NOTE: if you get a message that the pic is too big you will have to re-size it. Just hit the back button and go re-size the pic and repeat the steps again.

PS- While I'm here I think I'll attach a pic of a buddy of mine. He still works in in the Dept I was last with. Story is... He's at this worker and the FM gets there along with the engine. The FM is in the back getting a couple of pics and my buddy goes back there to shut off the utilities... my buddy sees a good photo op and stops to "pose" LOL.... :p :D

I knew that picture would bring the comments out. But if I cant laugh at myself I would be the only one. (Now you know why I hate having my picture taken.) As you can see though, I have no problems handling the line. ;)
To explain, that pic was taken about 6 hours into a live burn, during the final evolution where we were demolishing the house. I was tasked with protecting the 1430 volt lines that were at the top of the pole in this picture.

Point of clarification....I knew how to post a pic but was unable to get it to work properly;) and...by the way CR..the reason I am not taller is that I kept hitting my head against the wall when dealing with goofballs!:D

As for the Purple Hydrant.....I will take a pic and when the roll is developed after XMAS I will post it.... How's that?

I love the Tattoo....I put a bunch of ideas together trying to pay tribut to the "343" and told the guy..."make this work" and that is what he came up with. I will also give you a close up of it....well...most of it anyway...the better half seems to have a bit of trouble getting it in the right place on the camera..

And Gonzo...the beard is gone now....and I may be crusty....but not OLD!:D

Yes very similar... You take a family of racoons that have been living undisturbed in an old farmhouse for who knows how long and a training fire that extends to the attic....... OOPS!!! Mommy coon stayed as long as she could.... If memory serves, 51 was making his way up the ladder when mom decided to come down.. That's basically the gist...but I remember that mama came screeching out when he opened up the nozzle and damn near landed on his head. How he didn't fall off the ladder I'll never know.

As far as the fire extending to the attic, that's what happens when a bunch of whiners from a certain area of this state (you know, where the real firefighters are :rolleyes: )think the fires aren't hot enough. They let it get away from them and practically burn the roof off and then the rest of us get screwed out of the afternoon's evolutions :mad:

Sounds like our critter incident on Fostoria Rd. back in 1997 (=I think that's when it was). 159 thought a "cat" was in there while going in and when he grabbed it, he got a surprise....... Actually had a lil family in there....... I believe at least one of them met their maker..........
